Hi,

I am seeking advice on the best way I could get stuff shipped from USA to Australia. I have been living over in the United States and will be returning back to Australia soon but was wondering how I could get my stuff from my apartment to Australia and roughly the cost and timing of shipping these items. I have tried to sell the majority of my stuff but there are a new bits a pieces which I dont want to part with and want to bring back to Australia. I am looking at bringing home 5 large suitcase sized items, a table and 50" TV.

Any advice on companies I should contact or previous experiences would be great. I am also wondering what a rough price would be as obviously if its going to cost an arm and a leg then I will try and sell all of it!

Thanks everyone!

Doesn't help shipping...but would TV work here? Different plug and all that...

Yes it would work, just bend the plugs or use an adaptor. Given how fast TVs are improving though, I would think you would be much better off selling it and buying a new one instead of spending money on freight along with the risks that the screen may be damaged

I used Fedex and it was expensive. Plus you need to have someone come to the airport and clear it through customs which is a big pain.

When I had to ship a bunch of clothes and other things from the U.S. I priced Fedex and the like, and U.S. Postal Service. Post won hands down, especially as time wasn't a factor.

Could be OK for the suitcase type stuff. Maybe for other stuff if packed well.

Re TV . If it's internationally compliant, may be ok in Oz, but if made in US, may not be. A few years back I shipped a US desktop computer and used with an adapter etc. Ok for a year, then caught fire!

Fly me over and back in business class and I'll bring three suitcases of stuff for you ;)

Heck, I'll even do it in First.

Seriously do not think it is even worth considering shipping the television. They're getting cheaper here and I reckon the shipping cost would exceed the cost of a new unit.

we brought back 10 boxes/ suitcases 2 years ago on Qantas at $120/box. only had to pay for 6 given our luggage allowances. was cheaper than what was quoted to us by US Postal Service, FEDEX, UPS etc. not much help for a table and TV sorry.
