I have yet to travel on AA ( bit of a Southwest fan myself) ...... Are the staff really rude on AA as many people make out or is the company's reputation on poor customer service blown up somewhat ?

I can't say I have ever, in ~200 AA flights, ever had a bad crew. I experienced one very sullen crew member on a US Airways flight... but we were all 'on notice' and just stayed out of his way (no one asked for drink refills!!).

I think the whole hand luggage thing contributes a lot of tension to the situation. On most flights I've been on in Y in the USA, it seems to be more common than not for FAs to be barking orders to get the cabin loaded as quickly as possible to get on time departure, in a situation where volume of hand carry > volume of overhead locker space. So much tension during boarding (noticably absent on SW with choose your own seats and free checked luggage)

Based on the video it makes no sense why the crew acted the way they did. If she had failed to obey a directive from the crew why did the company not evidence that instead of offering her $250. For some reason the crew seemed to of had her marked. Maybe she didn't tip someone the correct amount or forgot to say 'have a nice day' or some other american bs.

Once after 9/11, I went AA LAX-MIA-MCO. At MIA after landing, I remember being astounded and a bit frightened when everybody else got off. No FAs or coughpit crew and the coughpit door was left wide open obvious from my seat in F.

I was the only person on the plane at MIA, then after a while the cleaners came on board and I stood really still in case any security rushed on at me. Then, after a while another crew came on and eventually off we went to MCO and no one said, 'what are you doing here'. Perhaps I couldn't gone to sit up front on the LH side and twiddled a few knobs and switches. Weird experience.
