It looks like I may not make Gold again this year which means I'll drop back to Silver and lose my free QP access. I don't stay in the QP long anyway as I find it's always overcrowded in the airports I usually pass through which makes me feel uncomfortable. A MR is possible, but in case I can't pull it off...I'm just wondering whether there's really any benefit to paying up for QP access if I do drop back to Silver? Silver gets the same extra baggage allowance that QP gets, and also gets to check in at business counters, correct? Is there anything (other than access to the lounge) which I would benefit from by paying up for QP?

Thanks in advance

Better seat selection? Would not a PS QP be just ahead of a plain old PS?

Also if you drop back then you will have to get 700 SCs to qualify for SG rather than 600 SCs to requalify. Maybe harder to attain next year as well.

It's basically just the lounge.

Remember also that a QP member doesn't get the same Oneworld lounge access as a SG. You just have access to Qantas Club & BA or AA lounges (only when flying said carriers)

Hi,

If you are not interested in visiting lounges QP membership will be a waste as PS gives most of the things QP gets except lounge entry, and even then you get one per year.

Hmm, doesn't sound like it's worth it. Thanks.

A mileage run is still a possibility, but don't know that I'll be able to pull it off in time between my other (unfortunately non-OW) flights.

Have to give it a bit more thought.

Earlier pre selection of seats, which is handy if you intend flying a reasonable amount in the next year.

Gold clicked over for me a week ago and my flights to HKG return in March and the first few rows (in Y) opened up. To take it a step further my wife and daughter, who were booked separately due to points distribution in the household, were not only moved up to join me but we were place on either aisle seat (A330, D & G) and one of the middle seats. This after being told, when I was silver, that none of it could be done.

Another thing to consider is that ODUs can only be done inside the QP.

No longer true, Quickcheck has the capacity to do ODUs, I used it earlier this year.

Yes, but there was some speculation as to needing to be QP or SG/WP/CL have this option presented. It simply saves you having to visit the QP if you don't have the time. Can any PS confirm if they've ever been offered an ODU from the quickcheck machines?
