SFO routes dropped?

The start date is probably dependent on the delivery of the 787s from Boeing.

  • Qantas has pushed back the restart of flights between Sydney and San Francisco from 30 July to 30 October. Customers will be reaccommodated on flights via Los Angeles.

Anyone with any more intel on SFO flights on QF metal...?

We have a bunch of work trips coming up and no one wants to fly UA.

BNE-SFO is likely off the cards for QF now that there's a partial Government/BAC funded service operated by UA starting in late October.

I suspect HK and Shanghai are going to be off the table for another couple of years.
I suspect the surplus A330 may potentially be used to JNB and/or CPT from PER/SYD (in place of Chinese/HK services).

I'm going by the current scheduling in the GDS, which is late October at this stage. Of couse things can change between now and the current tentative date.

Personally not sure if the proposed October restart of SYD-SFO on QF is tied to the deliveries of the remaining x3 787s.
As many undelivered 787s for most airlines (including QF) are still stuck due to issues on Boeing's end.
 
QF73/74 is now zeroed out in the GDS from late October, which was the most recent intended start date, until 1 December 2022. Further changes are possible.

I also note that San Francisco was not mentioned in this press release from Qantas yesterday, where the imminent restart of flights to Tokyo and Santiago was mentioned:


All of this indicates to me that the relaunch of Qantas flights to SFO will be delayed again.
 
Maybe QF should take a breather, consolidate existing flights - maybe even reduce number of seats or aircraft flying until there is improvement in KPI including customer satisfaction.

They and other airlines are selling more seats than they or the airports can currently handle.

QF, Don’t blame anyone else please. You guys know how to run an airline efficiently but you have let things get out of hand. I think you should just take the heat out of your system. Let things settle down a bit, then expand routes when systems, training, staff are consolidated.

Thanks, this is probably why I see them as ghost flights and unbookable.

Damn, now will have to route everyone via LAX again then onto AA for the short hop.
 
We booked SYD-SFO 2 days ago for travel in May 23. Now we will just have to wait and see if it happens.

Hopefully by then SFO is restored.

I have a bunch of travel in November / December and no one wants to fly United, understandbly ;)

Interestingly I can put the QF SFO flights on hold but obviously they won't ticket.

So now trying to snap up LAX flights - but they are really really full.

Crazy times.
 
Could try NZ via AKL, or FJ via NAN (Oneworld Connect partner).
