SFO Qantas Lounge

I'll be flying SFO/SYD with QF in July, so I'll let you know what lounge I will use ( I have a four or five hour lay over) I that been decades since I've flown in or our of SFO International.

So which lounge did they direct you? Cheers!

Earlier reports mention the refurbed AF lounge but it looks like CX Lounge has reopened.

In the Air France lounge.. denied service at the bar after two gin and tonics and a champagne during a 4 hour visit. No other drinks. Sitting quietly by myself. Seems a bit extreme?

That must be it. Didn’t realize you had to tip in airline lounges. Lesson learned!!

I was only suggesting a possible reason - maybe some other AFFer with experience could confirm / comment

Still, that's no reason to be refused service. Maybe cold service, slow service or preferred last in a crowd service (which ironically reduces the chance of a decent tip), but completely refused service? Did they give you a reason why you couldn't get another drink (did you ask for one)?

I didn’t ask for one. When I ordered my last drink he said that’s my last one. I said that’s a little harsh and he said “it’s for your own safety”. I did see a Reddit where someone else said they’d had the same experience in that lounge after a couple of drinks. I’m guessing maybe it was the tipping.

If they went down the "safety" route, then I'd reckon it could (also) be: (a) a warped form of what we know as RSA in Australia, realistic or not; and/or (b) limiting your consumption to save money per passenger (e.g. some Priority Pass lounges limit consumption - or "complimentary consumption" - of alcoholic drinks to 1-3 during each visit).

I must admit the money saving thing was my first thought but I’m not familiar enough with tipping etiquette to know if that was the factor. Anyway I went off to Cathay Pacific when that opened and didn’t have another drink anyway

Time in the Air France SFO lounge this week. Only one alcoholic beverage so no issues. Good food offering. Crowded on arrival so directed into a small VIP room.

Although it was around a year ago since I was in SFO, I tried to enter the AF Lounge having been advised by a fellow traveller on a connecting flight that QF used AF since it didn't have one of its own. Sadly only to be informed that it wasn't available to QF PAX. I doubt if I will ever go thru SFO again. It is a terrible airport, spread out over a vast area. Just getting from an arrival gate to transit from one to another (Alaska arrival) then to get to the QF gate was a marathon. SFO is certainly not one of my favourite airports

Uh.... CX is there, and AF currently is also there as well. Must be a bad lounge dragon you got.

SFO is actually one of the better airports to land in and get to.

Don't know if you've been since but getting to International from Harvey Milk is now a piece of cake, around a 10 minute walk?

Also the Airtrain landslide from the BART to all terminals.

Recently visited the AA lounge (now in T1) before an AA flight. It was quite decent for an AC. Didn’t try the AS lounge nearby.

Picking up this thread with the latest and greatest on Oneworld lounge options at SFO as of today.

In the main international lounge precinct for A Gates the photo below shows the available lounges and timings. EK and BA are also available in another part of the international terminal.

There is also the AA and AS lounges less than 10 minutes walk away from the other precinct, in Terminal 1.

QF and FJ pax are being sent to the AF lounge but access is only available 3 hours or less before departure. They are strict on this.

CX was happy to accept a Oneworld Emerald on the FJ flight.

While waiting for CX to open, AS was happy to accept a Oneworld Emerald on the FJ flight and indeed as others have said, by US domestic standards it is a nice fresh lounge with great tarmac views of the international terminal.

Note: EK is out of play for QF FFs due to the Americas being out of the QF/EK partnership.

Thanks for this. How is the CX lounge these days? Although CX lounges are usually very solid, as I recall it always used to be considered quite the letdown for the brand. While I've actually heard quite good things about the AF lounge (at least as far as food & beverage is concerned).

Curious as to which people would consider preferable? This would be ahead of QF74 so a 22:30 departure.
