Just got an e-mail from "SRH Qantas" saying, re my J flight from LAX next week:

You are invited to participate in an exclusive preview of Select on Q - Eat on your flight QF12 from Los Angeles .

You will be among the first to experience our new online ordering system which allows you to select your supper dish before you fly.

This offer is only available to customers travelling from Dallas Fort Worth and Los Angeles to Australia.

Select on Q - Eat gives you access to exclusive Rockpool designed menu options in addition to the on board menu.

Simply click on the link below to place your order. You can place your order up to 12 hours prior to your departure

This isn't new, is it? I've been flying *A for long haul since about June last year (new QF status year began March 1 :)), but I'm sure I've used some form of Advance Meal Selection on QF J before. Or is my red wine addled brain lying to me again?

BTW I think its an awful title for what I assume is a premium service. "Eat." Sounds like some US roadside diner sign.

I have a feeling this was introduced on a limited basis late last year.

I have a feeling this was introduced on a limited basis late last year.
I used it for my QF94 flight earlier this month.

Not a huge issue as the "supper" meals they are now serving are tiny ....

I just noticed. This menu is headed "February 2013" but it did allow me to select.

Only mains are offered. Personally I think making lamb into a 'healthier option' is just wrong.

Two of the 9 'supper' choices are labelled 'vegetarian' but in fact 4 are (including the soup and the cheese - apparently both offered as mains).

Calzone with Prosciutto, Tomato, Olives and Mushrooms

Calzone, originating in Naples, is a stuffed pizza. Our calzone is filled with a mixture of prosciutto, pitted olives, mozzarella cheese, rich tomato sauce, fresh basil and mushrooms. Enjoy with a glass of Chardonnay

Spring Pea and Mint Soup with Chive Crème Fraiche

A vibrant green pea soup with fresh mint, cream and parmesan cheese. Topped with a dollop of chive crème fraiche. Enjoy with a glass of Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc

Pumpkin Arancini with Tomato Sauce and Pesto

Vegetarian
Pumpkin arancini (risotto balls) with a rich tomato sauce and dollop of basil pesto. Enjoy with a glass of Point Grigio or Riesling.

Seared Sea Bass With Skordalia Broccoli and Tabbouleh Salad

Healthier Option
Seared Sea bass fillets served skordalia. Skordalia is a Greek dish of pureed potatoes, roasted garlic, lemon juice and a little olive oil. With steamed broccoli and tabbouleh salad made with fresh herbs, tomato, cucumber, fresh lemon juice, and extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy with a glass of Chardonnay

Dry Aged Angus Sirloin with Potato and Cabbage Gratin, Sautéed Mushrooms and Leek, Port Wine Sauce

Black Canyon beef is flavourful, grain-fed and USDA certified. Served with potato and cabbage gratin and classic port wine sauce. Enjoy with a glass of Shiraz.

Salad of Roast Lamb with Pearl Barley, Peas, Mint, Feta and Beetroot with White Balsamic Dressing

Healthier Option
Roasted lamb is sliced and served with a salad of pearl barley, peas, pine nuts, mint and feta salad. The dish is garnished with beetroot relish and white balsamic dressing. Enjoy with a glass of Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc.

Potato Gnocchi with Roasted Vegetable and Goats Curd

Vegetarian
Plump pieces of hand made potato gnocchi served with roasted vegetables like squash, Spanish onion, zucchini and capsicum. Finished goats curd and parmesan cheese enjoy this dish with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc or Riesling.

Chicken Schnitzel and Swiss Cheese Toasted Sandwich with Coleslaw

Toasted flat bread filled with rustic chicken schnitzel and Swiss cheese and finished with fresh coleslaw. This dish is best enjoyed with a glass of Chardonnay

Selection of Seasonal Cheese and Accompaniments

Hand selected hard and soft cheese with quince paste, dried strawberry and biscuits. This dish is best enjoyed with dessert wine or a Muscat or Tokay.

  1. No mention of 'Dine anytime', merely that these were choices for 'supper'. If they are loaded cold, then I imagine you can ask for it anytime. I'll ask.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread.

Soon I'll be flying on SIN-SYD 747 PE, there is now an option on Select on Q, do people suggest I go for the pre-order option (there are only 3 dishes available), or just pick on-board?

Are the onboard options any good?

I pre-ordered SYD-JNB & JNB-SYD in June. Supposedly there was an extra choice for pre-orders but it didn't seem much different by my recollection once aboard, so I don't think it makes a lot of difference.

Maybe it helps save on waste, which is no bad thing.

I have pre-ordered twice ex-Sydney where the crew had no knowledge of my pre-order. I suspect it does cut down on waste but, while it didn't happen to me, I think there remains a big risk you don't get your pre-selected meal. I still use it but now I take a printout of my order onboard.
