I’m out at dinner right now but just read that an incident has occurred at BNE International. Knife attack outside the Red Rooster.

Anyone have any more info?

I seen it on a friends FB as her husband is customs and he is working tonight

All she had was this

Thankfully this is pre-screening or I would think there would be some questions to be answered. Whole airport is in lockdown and evacuated now.

Latest: suspect shot.

************************************************************************

POLICE have shot a man at Brisbane International Airport after he produced a knife and threatened to use explosives.

The suspect walking into the airport carrying a metal box with exposed wiring and claimed to be carrying a bomb, sources have told The Courier-Mail.

Nick Sherrard said it was a dramatic scene at the airport.

“Man took out a knife in departures just as we checked in,” he wrote online.

Other witnesses said the saw an “old man” pull a knife from a bag near the food court, in what appeared to them to be a “domestic argument”.

As it is evacuated that means everyone who was airside are now not airside? I imagine that is going to be a logistics headache
Hope all are ok

Most recent update from QLD Police: BRISBANE AIRPORT UPDATE; Specialist police have taken a man into custody. Police are currently conducting clearance searches of the International Terminal. No reported injuries to any members of the public or police. PSPA -emergency declaration remains in place. #alert

QLDPOLICE UPDATE 10.05pm: A man has been transported to a police station where he is to be interviewed. Specialist police remain at the airport with clearance searches of the International Terminal on-going. The public are thanked for their on-going co-operation and patience #alert #alert

Had to have a laugh at the varying reports from "news" outlets. I read at a quick glance, summarising
1. Domestic argument, old man with knife, threatening airport with bomb, not in sight. Offender detained (likely story)
2. Man with metal box, in negotiations with police
3. Man shot dead after walking into airport with metal box with exposed wires, shot by police

On twitter, user telling a reporter "have a friend currently inside airport. He known gunshots and clearly heard 2 gunshots. Guy shot and killed by federal police"....:rolleyes: clearly not true after all the QLD Police updates

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story

When I first searched for updates around an hour ago, the top headline on Google was from the UK tabloid The Sun and it said something along the lines of "Terrorist attack in Brisbane as man goes on stabbing rampage" which I thought was a pretty good job of extrapolating the very sparse information at the time in to an exciting headline.

And the final update from QLDPolice: UPDATE 10.30PM: There is no evidence to suggest the incident at the International Airport is terrorism related, it is a domestic violence related situation.

Might have been good if you'd done that before labelling it a "terrorist incident".
Since 2001, any time someone happens in a busy public space, it's always instantly labeled "terrorism", even when it isn't. Which then leads people to declare things that are not terrorism to be so.

Something has to fill the scrolling breaking news tickers that have permanently graced our screens since 2001, as well.

I was just posting what I saw briefly online while eating dinner. I simply repeated what I read because it was airport-related and I saw it wasn’t being discussed. I’ll apologise if that’s not what AFF is for – discussing things!

Many things posted on discussion boards are ‘live’ ‘as they happen’ and only later does the story clear up. Perhaps you would prefer AFF contain no posts until the full investigation is complete. That’ll make for some very interesting discussions on delays and accidents and what not.

As for this not being a terrorist incident, sure it might be proven that isn’t the case now. But were the people there terrorised at the moment it was happening?

Ok kids let’s play nice...

Waking up to this just seems like another ‘once off’ has gone off the deep end... we seem to get a few of these in AU! They’ve lined up s long line of charges against him with ABC reporting:

Officers negotiated with an Australian man of Middle Eastern origin before firing beanbag rounds to resolve the situation.

The man has since been taken to the Brisbane watch house, where he was charged this morning with staging a bomb hoax, making a false statement, assault, contravening a domestic violence order, stalking and stealing.
