Hi all has any one had any experience with flying from Toronto to the USA, I have been told that the new security means that you need to be at the Airport 2 1/2 Hours before the flight, to get on to the plane. Last time I was there it was 1 hr and that was only 18 months ago.

I did this about a year ago and don't recall being there that early.

You might be best checking with your airline directly?

At many Canadian airports, passengers on flights to USA undergo USA immigration processing before departure. That does add time to the whole pre-departure process and once "processed" you have to remain in the "USA" secure side of the terminal. So it probably is about right to ensure plenty of time for check-in, security screening and USA immigration processing.

^^^^ This is what happened to us each time we've been there in the last 6 years. It effectively means you're on a domestic flight as you've been through the security process at the start instead of the end of the flight.

Not bad really although the waiting area needs improvement.

We went from YYZ-ORD in August 2009 and got to the airport ~2 hours early.

We had all our luggage hand searched as dad thought he had forgotten an apple somewhere in the luggage and waited until the last possible time to remind me. We still made the flight but if it was not for this incident we would have had heaps of time left.
