I was 'connecting' last month from QF26 to QF26 LAX-AKL-MEL, thus had 3 or 4 hours transit at AKL. Having nothing else to do I went directly to the QP, and when I entered was the only patron there.

Very shortly after I looked up from my seat and there were a uniformed gent and lady wandering the lounge with those 'mirrors-on-a-stick' that are typically used to check under cars for bombs etc. and they were checking under all the seats (and maybe tables, didn't notice).

When done with this, they then opened and checked all the cupboards by the food and beverage bar. I had no interaction with them other than when I offered to get off my seat the chap said, cheerily, it was not necessary.

I've never seen this before at a lounge and am wondering if anyone else has, and if it is a regular occurrence, either by law or just by policy (airport or airline)?
