Seating on OneWorld Partner Airlines

Several times this year I've had flights booked via QF along with a OneWorld airline partner in the same booking, yet it seems seat selection as a WP is a terrible experience each time. No seat maps or even access to any kind of selection. My current booking which includes LATAM again has been terrible with my QF online booking showing both my QF and LATAM flights but no way of selecting seats on the LATAM flights and QF advising there is nothing they can do except call the other carrier.

What is the point of being OWE and flying the alliance when 'premium seating' or any kind of seating that matter cannot be preselected?

For flights with partner airlines are you going to the operating airline's website with the PNR for that airline? LATAM issues rings a bell however... but other airlines should be ok for seating. If flying on a partner I don't use the QF site to choose seats... as you say there often isn't even a seat map available. Even if there was, they sometimes don't match and I wouldn't trust a seat selection to stick (especially if they have a change of aircraft).

LATAM seating is an issue which has been reported here before, which is a shame as not long ago they had brilliant on-line OW Emerald seat selection tool.

I use a TA, so never have a problem in selecting seats as a WP, but otherwise MEL_Traveller is right about using the host airline's site and PNR.

I have managed to do it on the QF website but worried that it won't stick on AA.

I had no issues with my seat selection sticking when doing as you just described. This was approximately seven weeks ago.

JAL is the one I've had most trouble with (seats selected don't stick, difficult to use the JAL site). CX a quick call to its line does the trick.

As others have said, just enter the Qantas booking code into the airline that you're actually flying with.
I hear that LATAM's seating is complicated, but I haven't had a problem selecting the front row when flying BA, AY, S7, CX and JAL. In fact, I get better seat access with those guys than i do with QF... (who have been blocking out the front row for WPs since last year).


The JAL website is horrific, but I've still been able to select the front row of J.

Don't you mean enter the booking code (PNR) of the airline you are flying with, into its website, rather than the QF code? It will be the same if the airline being flown has the same booking engine as Qantas, but otherwise you have to obtain the airlines own PNR to use its web site equivalent of Manage my Booking.
