I'm booked on QF2566 (CBR-BNE) on 18 August. I am not able to view the seat map or make a seat selection via the Qantas website or app, and when I look at Expertflyer it says a seat map isn't available for this flight. When I booked the seats (via phone to Qantas) they said seat selection wasn't currently available for that flight.

Given I'm fairly tall and WP, access to leg room seating is important to me.

Any suggestions on why the seat selection isn't available, and what I can do to maximise chances for a decent seat ?

Thanks in anticipation,

Standard for the Dash 8, you get to select a preference for window or aisle.

At T-24 check in on line and see if you can get a good seat.

The lack of earlier choice is done for weight distribution reasons.

Yes as the others say, you can’t select your seat on the Dash8s. For what it’s worth I find that there seems to be more leg room on them. There are exit row seats available so maybe try and grab one of them when checkin opens online.

I would also suggest trying for an aisle seat if you are tall. The walls close in on the footwell for the smaller dash-8 fuselage, I’m not tall but I sometimes find my feet getting a bit jammed on shorter CBR flights. If going to BNE you may find it more of a problem.

As a tall bloke I always take an aisle seat on the Dash flights. I don't recall the exit rows offering any noticeable increase in legroom. I would be aiming for 1B if you can get it.

I’ve managed to get a seat assigned via the QF Twitter. And it held even to the flight itself. Unsure if that was a one off (also a WP)

try to get on a flight that's not a Dash8 for that route. Those bolt upright seats are a nightmare on the shortest of flights.

You can't do seat selection on Dash 8 services, I think exits can be done/pre purchased sometimes though.

Manual flight editing is done the day before, by QLink staff, generally stuff like assistance and seating families together.

Just ask the gate staff before boarding time, hopefully you should be able to get it sorted.

You can select seats at online check-in, T-24. Recently as a WP I was offered 5C +5D initially, but could easily select the exit rows 1A + 1B or 2C + 2D and did switch.

If you want legroom then go for 1B

1A has a bulk head in front of it and the same with 2A and 2C

The only issue with 1B is your stare straight at the FA seated in the jump seat directly in front of you.

Honestly after having done so many flights in these aircraft i find to distribute the weight if its not overly full they put most people in a staggered pattern and leave a seat free next to you.

Interesting point though that VA offer seat selection on their ATR services? Although different aircraft config with cargo up the front I’m sure there would be similar issues with centre of gravities and balance etc...

It seems that Qantaslink may have now carried this policy across to their 717 and F100 fleet operating in the Pilbara. I now have no preselection of seats available on any of my pre booked flights any more, including T-80 for platinum.

I have never been able to select a seat on a Dash 8 service until checkin at T-24.
However as a BA gold I can tell if AJ has had a barney with young Willie. If getting along I can get Row 2,3.If a barney I get row 11 and can't change.
