Just a quick question about advanced seat selection on NZ flights (when booked through DJ). DJ's website states I get seat selection as a gold Velocity member. I can't seem to do it online so does this mean I should call DJ call centre?

Presumably this is for a trans-tasman flight? Unfortunately, in my experience there is no advance seat selection. As per DJ's website:
Select a Seat | Virgin Australia

Advance seat selection is available:
  • For Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class fares excluding Saver fares
  • For Platinum, Gold and Silver Velocity Frequent Flyers regardless of fare paid and their travelling party regardless of fare
  • On Virgin Australia operated flights numbered between DJ50–DJ2999, and DJ4000–DJ4999
  • From 14 days prior to departure, up until check-in closure
The NZ-operated codeshares are in the DJ8xx_ range.

The Velocity website does indeed say that gold members have advance seat selection but it's implied that only occurs when on an NZ marketed and operated flight (and in my experience, this does occur in practice - a Gold member booking an NZ flight can select a "space +" seat at the time of booking).

I know that as an Air NZ elite, when you book on virgin, they pre-book seats, (not sure exactly when that happens though), but you can't specifically select them. Not sure if that helps.

I've never had the option of advance seat selection on a code share with Air NZ when booked through DJ. However, the checkin staff always provide me good seats at the front of the cabin on the A320's and on both occasions I've flown SYD-AKL on the 777 I've been upgraded to premium economy.
