I've been QF platinum for a few years and currently have platinum one (but unlikely to keep it). I'm familiar with the Qantas rules for seat selection where access to seats improves as you get closer to date of travel.

I'm currently velocity gold and have gone into seat selection for a trip Perth-Denpasar 5 days away. We've been allocated 8A/B and everything up to row 7 has bee blocked off. Is it worth checking again later or is this all we will have access to?

I'd suggest you give the call centre a call and see if they can help you out.

Doesn't seat selection open up 14 days before flight, therefore it shows that other Gold or Plat status members have either been pre-allocated those forward rows of Y, or gone on when the window has opened and selected them.

Early bird et al...

Was the flight booked before you made gold? If so the status might not have updated on the booking, leaving you with only the lower-status options.

No - as a DJ SG, if I do a dummy booking for a flight within two weeks, I can select seats as part of the process, row 3 included.

But only if you pay extra, outside of 14 days beforehand.

I mean was the flight booked when the OP was still silver and has since then moved up to gold - iirc baggage allowances and allowable seat ranges don't update on existing bookings unless you contact them or (maybe) take the first flight in the itinerary.

This brings up a question I had. Why would the booking system not realise you're status has changed?

I booked a heap of flights earlier this year, flew a couple last weekend as Silver, next weekend as Gold but booking still says Red...?

I assume it's one of the many things 'to be resolved when the computer systems are overhauled next year'.

You can't select a seat outside of 14 days; you can pay additional for an "Extra Legroom" seat, but can't select any actual seats whether one pays or not until 14 days.

737 Row 3 comes at no additional charge (if yon status permits such selection), row 14 exit seat are charged for.

The lovely Virgin lady preallocted my seating to row 2 for my flight in 3 weeks. The call centre is always soo delightful when compared to the 'Premium Desk' as a QFF WP.

Thanks for the advice - it was worth the phone call. Bookings don't get upgraded when status changes, so as well as getting moved from row 8 to row 3 I also got a refund for the bag I'd already paid for when I made the booking at red several months ago.

Ok. So my caveat on your previous is "only within 14 days of the flight".

The call centre can select seats more than 14 days before the flight though.

Yes this is an issue with their current system. Can be easily resolved at check-in or in the lounge. Ask them to delete your velocity number from the booking and then re-enter it. You new status will then be picked up. Not a lot of the check in personnel know this as a work around.

OLCI will reload the status and show the new.

Interestingly, getting a BP at the lounge does not and the BP shows the old status.

The system needs to query the Velocity database and OLCI does this where as printing a BP doesn't trigger a need to query the database. I have used OLCI outside of 24 hours, even though it wont check you in, I've had it update my status.

Haha as a lowly silver I used to only dream of the half-full flight and 7D!

I have a flight next week that was booked before I made SG. At T-14 the lady in the call centre knew what my problem was (apart from a bad case of need-to-sit-up-the-frontitis) and moved me forwards and upped the baggage in no time :)
