Seat recliner peril - Grant Hackett gets revenge

'Witnesses' were quoted on the news tonight saying 'nothing violent' happened (this was repeated a couple of times). Which implies some act did happen, just maybe not 'violent'. There's no outright denial that touching occurred. Very carefully chosen words by the witnesses.

It's not just about reclining it's about consideration for others around you.

Had a couple on a SYD-CBR flight on VA recline back in unison. On a 25 minute flight? Seriously? Gave them a spray and moved seats.

Feel sorry for Grant Hackett. Obviously demons at play that we could not possibly understand.

I love your explanations Johnk

Apparently Hackett was wasted and couldn't even walk properly, surprised they let him on board. Being that drunk it's the FA's obligation to deny him entry to the aircraft.

A bit of a Jim Reason Swiss cheese the holes did line up for him the system also contributed.

Yes, sitting on a jetstar flight one night and had my laptop open on the tray table and was leaning forward to look at some somethign and the woman in front slammed the seat back almost hitting my head, can't say i was impressed and she might have just caught a little of my knee in her back...

No I'm not going to get up an assault anyone etc but don't expect any courtesy out of me if you give none, if the seat accidentally gets bumped when i hop up for some reason...

but hey we all paid for our seat so we'll do what we want that makes us feel good...

it is a topic where never the twain shall meet between the fors and againsts...

I heard that the 3 some to be unsuppressed by the judge on Wednesday is Jonny Depp, wife and Hackett..... Get ready for another staged reading ;)

Wayne Carey and friends were last night defending Grant Hackett. Apparently Collingwood CEO Gary Pert said it was just a "tap" whereas the pax in front said he was sexually assaulted.

Oh, so not the "piano player" and their husband? (How quaint of the Age to refer to the "celebrity and their husband")

Very true JohnK... but hey..that applies equally to the recliner.

Maybe they had a rotten headache or neck pain that was (somewhat) alleviated by reclining....

How about some consideration for them?

A female can sexually assault a male. And a male can do likewise to a male. No double standard there.

I think you may find that whatmeworry wasn't talking about in general, but the "nipple cripple" being sexual assault...

I was being oblique. :p. Its an interesting question. I wonder what the intent was in doing this act? And maybe its also how the victim (whether male or female) feels about it.

Absolutely.

"Excuse me sir but I have a rotten headache/neck pain and I will try and recline a little to see if it will help to make me feel better."
"Sure. Please go ahead. Thanks for letting me know."

See what I did there?

If it was a guy on girl... Well yes. Guy on guy, girl on guy... No, because societal double standards.

Sorry are we still taking about the celeb menage-a-trois here? ;)

Remember all those kids in school who swam squad? Sad buggers weren't they. There is a price to pay for sporting glory. We laud our stars like the US laud their veterans ...and both end up with PTSD basically.

From the Virgin Australia website - domestic business class:

Whereas for economy:

So 'generous recline' is clearly advertised as a specific feature for business class. If you don't like it take the front row or fly another airline.

So what? You seem to be making a poorly considered argument. Being able to recline doesn't mean you must recline. No one is forcing that person to needlessly recline. Anyone who has to recline, in business class on a short day flight deserves everything they get. I find the domestic 737 J seats start at a sufficiently recline position in any case. My recent set of J flights with Qantas saw me having to lean forward most of the flight with the seat in the upright position.

Then we have ADL-MEL, a flight with about 27 minutes not in take off or descent mode with mandatory upright seats. Massive DYKWIA by the recliner if they feel they must use all advertised features.

There's probably no law against expelling copious amounts of gas in an enclosed, pressurised cyclinder...

Its probably not the most courteous thing to do, but hey if you're a stickler for what the terms and conditions don't specifically say no to...
