Hi All,

I am flying QF5 tomorrow SYD->FRA, and have just found something that kind of doesn't make sense.

Normally I am not too fussed what seat I am in, I spend a lot of time out bush so comfort isn't a huge issue to me (and I have resigned myself to a life in whY). But since joining this forum, I have learnt about wonderful things like preallocation etc.

I logged into checkmytrip, and found I have been allocated (and doesn't have the green tick next to it) 30F, which looking at the seating map for the 2-class 747 doesn't exist! The seat on the way back (different flight route) has a preallocation and is confirmed (and the seat actually exists).

Anybody able to shed any light on this one?

What does QF Manage your Booking show ?

I have had it happen before where there was an aircraft substitution and my allocated seat no longer existed. First thing that I noticed was the tick disappearing!

QF Manage my Booking also says 30F. Oh well, maybe I might be bumping a WP to an op-up tomorrow :)

Aircraft with seat maps 744-14P64J265Y, 744-14P66J265Y & 744-14P66J40PY187Y have seat 30F (as downloaded from QF)

Do you have status with QF ?

QF5 is showing the following for tomorrow:
  • SYD-FRA: J0 C0 D0 I0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 VC SC NC QC OC XC E0
  • SYD-SIN: J0 C0 D0 I0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 SC NC QC OC XC E0
  • SIN-FRA: J9 C9 D9 I9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 X3 E2

So it is sold out SYD-SIN but wide open to FRA.

E/F returns a 14 seat zone A cabin for J but no map for WHY.

Row 30 on a 744 can be found in this configuration (as well as the 4 class):

http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/flying/inTheAir/ourAircraft/744-14P66J265Y.pdf

So you have a 3 or 4 class aircraft rather then the usual 2 class - and seat 30F is a SkyBed.

If the 30F hold up you may get WHY service with a more comfortable seat - or J service even.

Note: there is no 30F on the 2 class 744.

However, given the sold out status of this flight to SIN, you may be in for an op-up - As a PS it quite possible.

IME the lack of a green tick in CheckMyTrip means you may be sitting somewhere else!

The wait is over, received 34B, Op-Up to Y+. Could do worse :) I was told it was a 2-class flight to Frankfurt, maybe with the A380 they are moving PE 747s to other routes?

i didn't think Prem Eco was offered to Frankfurt.

If that is correct (ie it is not offered), you will have a prem econ seat but with standard economy service - this is what happened a bit over the pacific until QF had enough planes to offer Prem Eco.

I am about to do BNE-SIN-FRA-FLR and cant see anywhere in QF manage booking or checkmytrip that shows what seat and/or gives an ability to preallocate :p

Do I still just need to ring up?

Hmm, did you click the [+] details Icons to ascertain further information?

Aside from that, if all else fails and checkmytrip does not show your seat then you will need to ring up.

Has anybody had any experience pre-allocating BA seats on a DONE4, booked through AA, as a oneworld Emerald? BA tell me all they can do is put in a request for a particular seat.

But not until 24 hours prior to departure, correct?
if your Emerald status is correctly in the booking, you can select seats on-line any time, not just during on-line check-in. If you are unable to do it on-line then your status is not correctly applied to the booking.

I double-checked with AA and my FF status was in the booking so I phoned BA back and asked what the problem was. The agent re-entered my FF number and it confirmed my Emerald status. I'm now able to choose seats.

As NM posted, any time after the booking is made. Furthermore you can select exit row seats.

Just be wary of the BA seat shifters (... sounds of the Jaws theme music ...).

Is this a QF FF number that is reflecting your Emerald status? If so, does it have a leading zero in the number? BA's system requires all leading zeros to be included, while QF and AA seem to be ok with the trailing non-zero numbers.

Interesting. No, it doesn't have a leading zero.
