Seat poacher

Thus reminds me of an amusing scene in a movie, possibly Murder on the Orient Express (but searching is not coming to fruition), where this old lady refused to move to her seat because "I always sit next to the window".

I boarded a flight on the weekend and immediately observed when I entered the plane that someone was in my seat. I just told the flight attendant at the door and they promptly sorted it out with their colleague without a fuss.
That was also my strategy on boarding a CX flight a few years ago - I turned around to look for a cabin crew who then looked up her tablet and found that I had just been upgraded to F class!

Nice one. If instead you’d gotten the crew offside and gone OTT, they might have given the upgrade to someone else!

Oh the flight was already disrupted due to a typhoon so I think the op up must have just been processed after scanning my original boarding pass at the gate

Cairo to DXB on EK the other evening was an absolute farce due to about fifty passengers all randomly choosing where they wanted to sit in Y - quite a number of them seemed to be more interested in posting themselves on Instagram etc than bothering to be even the slightest bit helpful - it was such a mess and was threatening to delay departure and in the end the flight attendants gave up trying to sort it out.

Odd how the poacher tends to be found in a better seat/row than that which was allocated. 🤔
Reassuring to know. At least they are in their right mind (versus those that aren't). Which you would wish be taken off by security before you take off🤣🤣

Like a boss😎😎

I was on a run of work trips a couple of years back that involved a LOT of flights. I repeatedly selected seat 2C. Except for that one flight where it wasn’t available, so I selected seat 2D instead. After 12 days of boarding flights and sitting in Seat 2C, I rocked up to 2C and found someone sitting in it. Said it was my seat, asked them to move, and they did - to the back of the bus.

On day 14, same thing. Boarded and someone was in 2C. Ok here we go again, I thought. However, I politely enquired if they were in the right seat, and they assured me they were. Pulled out their boarding pass and showed me - 2C. Oops, this was my turn to try 2D 😫!

I apologised profusely, and took seat 2D with my cheeks absolutely flaming. As it was quite a long flight, we had some time for a longer explanation across the aisle, and I must say he saw the funny side of my attempt to evict him from his seat. It’s made me paranoid about checking and re-checking my own boarding pass before trying to take a seat, that’s for sure.
why he a fool for not taking seat 2D since it is a window seat. Good on (for) you!

Both 2C and 2D are aisle seats.
So, what would be the seat number of the window seat in row 2 on that aircraft type, facing forward (not referring to 2A by the way)

Edited the typo

Had a non-aviation seat poacher experience when seeing Stevie Nicks in concert 6 or 7 years ago at RLA. We were row 2 and this tedious woman kept coming to sit in row behind then dancing in the aisle and making a nuisance of herself.
Taken back to her real seat on two occasions by security. At least twenty rows back
Third time around she is gotten rid of (very gently and respectfully I might add) so much so that only when she started yelling loudly did Stevie realise something was going on.

Of course in the The Age the next day (and various media) ‘I was thrown out for dancing at a concert.’🤔🤔

…like same BS entitlement mentality displayed at an event at Comedy Festival a few days ago….

This is my SOP as well.
I just don’t approach anyone in my seat.
Show the FA my BP and let them deal with it.
Saves the embarrassment at the seat if I ever turn out to be wrong 😆

Agree with that. I’ve done this. Raise it with the FA. I can’t see any upside in a passenger directly confronting a poacher.

I’d probably assume an innocent mistake, it wouldn’t occur to me that they or I would be at all confrontational about it, and I don’t like bothering people for what I think is needless … so I wouldn’t want to bother the FA in the first instance. I’d expect myself & the poacher would compare tickets, have a laugh, and whoever scrood up would go to the correct seat; well, that’d be my expectation, any push-back would have me very flustered. :)

[like the pretty girl on the Italian train who hadn’t paid for a reservation so sat in mine, and who had tears & a sob-story I’ve forgotten so I just moped around in the vestibule …]

I'm the same, giving the benefit of doubt, especially when I've done the same mistake myself in the past.

Spot a stranger on what you think is your seat? Double-check your own BP and the current row number first. If your seat is taken, kindly mention to the poacher that it's my seat, please, is their possibly a row in front or back? The day will come when I get temporarily stuck with this but so far it's always worked out neatly.
