Hi :). I'm flying Singapore Airlines Business Class for the first time to London. It's a really special treat for me to be flying Business Class and I'm very excited!! I've already preselected seats and was wondering if people could advise me whether these seats are any good? My criteria is: away from the baby bassinet :p, window, seat not at the very front or back of the section.

The seats I have selected at the moment are:
-Adelaide to Singapore (A330-300), Seat 15A
-Singapore to London (A380-800), Seat 14K (Upper Deck)
-London to Singapore (A380-800), Seat 14A (Upper Deck)
-Singapore to London (A330-300), Seat 15K

Also, if anyone had any tips for flying SQ Business Class that would be much appreciated. In particular, recommendations for the best dishes to order off the 'Book the Cook' menu would be great.

Thank you so much :).

Sit back and relax and enjoy the flight. More recently we have not done Book The Cook and have been quite happy with the results. The champers, the satay, the main meal choice plus the dessert and chocolates mean you won't go hungry. The seat on the A380 is wide so there is plenty of room. Changi airport lounge for J passengers is quite comfortable but save your appetite for the flight unless you intend to go to sleep a few minutes after take off from SIN for LHR.

All of these seats are good. My personal preference is the front row on the A330. There is more leg room. For the occasional bassinet issue I am prepared to risk it.

Any window seat on the A380 will suit me fine. I never want to get off that aircraft.

Also, consider pacing yourself as Cove mentions. Your leg out of Oz will be connecting to the A380 at ~2am Adl time. Do you normally have big meals at that time or do you sleep and eat later. This can be negotiated with the cabin crew. Personally for those connections I eat in the lounge prior to boarding and then sleep. This means that I'm well rested from the start of the trip and my body clock is adjusting based on rest rather than exhaustion. (It works for me)

I had BTC meals when flying to the middle east recently. They weren't that spectacular. If you have a specific choice go for it. For me the menu meals are very good.

Enjoy your flight. Once you get into the hands of SQ, they will whisk you safely and enjoyably to LHR.

Yes excited you should be.
The SQ J product is great.
My preference on the 380 is in the forward cabin that you have chosen. Less seats means less disturbance when you want to sleep. The front row window seats 11a and k are a bit drafty from the stair well so stay with the row 12/13/14. The disabled toilet is behind 15 K and is vast. As Alby said figure out when you want the food and just let the crew know when you hop on. I have BTC on a few occasions ,I am a bit of a duck fan, but I tend now to go with the standard menu, unless they feel like an update then I might be tempted again. The seats are vast, if you go to seatgurus comparision charts and sort by width they come out top, they are bigger than most first class seats! The only slight improvement for me would be the addition of pjs, I like to sleep in anything but my work clothes, it just means I have to revive the old BA Fclass ones which are well travelled. Enjoy the bubbles, the SQ T3 lounge which has draft Tiger on tap!! and enough curry to last a life time.
Sorry no experience on the 330
I have no idea of your lay over time on the way back but if it allows a trip to the pool at the transiy hotel on top of T1 (about $14 entry) is a great way to unwind before the trip back to ADL

Thank you all so much for your replies :). Danger, I'm already in seat 14 so that's all good :). You may find it interesting to know that when I look at the Seat Selection online they seem to also have a seat 16 in the front cabin?

So I guess from what you guys are telling me it is better to just go with the regular menu than Book the Cook? I was just wondering what types of things do they serve on their regular menu? Also, is there quite alot of variety to choose from?

Yeah, BTC not as good as main menu.
My menu two weeks ago offered confit of salmon or Indonesian lamb curry or tournedos of beef peppercorn sauce or Kung pao chicken for mains. The beef was delicious. ( I took the menu home to make sure I remembered the details on the Haut-Medoc)
Unlike cove, I couldn't pace myself so had two champers then tried both whites both reds and finished with a port. All with the respective courses, naturally!
The seats, which flip over in to flat beds, are awesome. I know because after consuming the above, I gave the bed a 7 hour workout!!
Enjoy the flights

Yes Duffa I had forgotten to mention the Frech red. A true combination that allows you to go to sleep. Great champers, food to your liking along with some wines.
First time I did not figure the seat to bed conversion but our Singapore Girl came along and showed me and of course then there is the secret to making it back ino a chair!
The crew is very helpful so just ask if you cannot figure something out.
Exciting time approaching for austravel that's for sure.

I also moved my self forward one row on the ADL - SIN flight to be further away from the lavatory so now I am in row 14. I was in row 15 before which is two rows away from the lavatory. Just wondering how often are the bassinets in the cabin used/is it annoying if a baby is in the bassinet?

Lately I've been taking a tracksuit. A little warmer (heavier) but also useful off the aircraft.

There is a repository of menus on sqtalk. Singapore Airlines Catering - SQTalk

I think 16 may be a crew rest seat . On the 777er middle of row 12 is usually reserved for crew

If the aircraft has 16 A / K then it is the new cabin layout (all J upper deck)

IMHO 14 A / K are the best two seats for a solo traveller on the SQ 388s. 14 D & F for couples.

Any further forward and the curvature of the aircraft starts to reduce your space (more psychological than an actual lack of space), and further back you are close to the galley (noise). Also row 14 gives you enough time sit up and get comfortable for the meal service as you see the cart go past to serve from row 11 back to you.

Hi mate, to be honest I have only flown F and R on SQ in recent times, but I always order BTC and if something off the main menu is more appealing - I just go with it. They never have a problem, and I doubt they would in J either. I've found the 'western' meals off the main menu to be pretty shoddy on SQ, especially EX-SYD and EX-MEL. The Asian main menu meals are generally better in my experience.

I would avoid BTC and agree that the Asian meals are far better than western meals. I enjoyed some excellent Asian cuisine in J last week with SQ and will be taking this option in future. My advice for SQ J class is to be as tired as possible, so you can sleep, collect as many pillows as you can from vacant seats, to make yourself comfortable, and sleep as much as you can. The seats are not comfortable in a sitting position.
