So I'm looking for some MEL-LAX return (QF93/94) awards in September for a friend of mine and have just noticed that on several dates, QF93 is not even in the list when I search. The only available ones are via SYD, DFW etc. When I look at Flightstats for the corresponding dates, it is showing as X0, U0 but nothing about P availability (doesn't have P on the list at all).

Funnily enough there are some QF94 flights that have F classic seats available but again nothing showing P availability on Flightstats.

Then there are some showing F classic seats available which do have some P bucket awards showing on Flightstats and then I look at ASA tickets and the F seat is available at "classic award prices".

Is this something to do with Flightstats? Maybe I should invest in EF.

I'm going to ring tomorrow to see if they can release classic awards (in Y) for me, well for my friend but with my WP account to travel on the same flights as I am already booked on. If I'm lucky, what fare bucket are they generally taken out of, or is it a multitude of factors including dates, route flown, fare availability in other classes, number of WPs/SGs etc...

As an aside, it would be very handy to be able to search for P availability (or U/X, the award classes) on certain routes - is there such an option in EF?

Flightstats, or most free tools, would not have all award classes.
