Yup. I was half toying with the idea of a few days in SIN until I saw that. Unless you're flying in from Europe, an insomniac or a masochis_, sitting in a seat with a 31" pitch (and possibly no recline) for 9.5 hours trying to sleep will be pretty awful I'd imagine, and it'd take me at least two days to recover...

It's not 9.5 hrs only 7! (or 6:50 to be exact, which is a little odd as SQ schedule 7.5hrs on 773's on same route). Think of it as a day flight, after all 0250 is really 0450 SYD time... :D Can see people missing this flight catching 3 hrs kip in SIN before boarding.

Personally I find the post midnight departures, especially in Y, much better for sleeping (because I am dog tired) than pre-midnight departures (because I am not), although 0250 is pushing it a bit...

Having a look at the seat map on Australian BT now; rows 61-65 are 2 abreast 'super' econony, which seems good value at only $20 more than the standard seat selection, and "biz" is 2-4-2 anyway. Guess there is no disadvantage being at the back of the bus on a flight with no inclusive meal service.

2-4-2 doesn't really appeal as a J product as far as I am concerned.

Using the "business" label as a marketing ploy as opposed to the authentic product, much the same as sparkling wine & champagne... there is a distinct difference.

Bottom line is all of these ex-SIN overnight flights suck. It's too short to get decent sleep; only marginally better than an ex-PER red-eye.

The "best option" is probably a day flight ex-SIN. 0250h departure for a 1140h arrival doesn't really smack of "next day arrive and straight to work" - more like a leisurely arrival in and the rest of the day is a write off (viz. sleep). So, big deal. At least it does give a good amount of slack for those connecting in via LCCs into SIN. (Also, you'll be able to fly a flight at a time which would have no chance of getting off the ground in SYD in a million years, if that is of any comical value to some ;)).

The extra incentive if you fly Scoot? The food isn't free, so you can go straight to sleep (bring plugs to block out the "Service anyone?" calls).

The Y seating is 10 across. A little tight, anyone? (Probably not if you are a fit person, unlike me).

And ScootBiz is definitely PE at best (and you all thought Jetstar Business was the industry's biggest oxymoron). (To be fair, however, consider UA J and BA CW which are also 8 across).

Probably 0250 ex SIN is the cheapest departure slot..

What an awful dep time ex SIN time.. limbo land.

The cheap "intro fares" will get a few punters in.. After the initial hype, watch as the fares increase substantially.

These fares are absolutely non sustainable on these route sectors, even with 90% loading without the premium end subsidising the pleb fares.

I'm sure they will find ways to make up the shortfall.. excess baggage, renting ipads, 'hawker style" food, water, tacky Scoot souvenirs, change money??.. should keep the crew busy & passengers annoyed for 60% of flight

Trying not to be too critical here, I think the concept is great, provides options & allows convenient priced fares & service for some.

I look forward to giving it a whirl out of GC, with the premise & understanding that all "bells & whistles" have been removed.

Turn it round and look at it from SIN originating pax viewpoint it may not be too bad. Timings are perfect for getting into/out of cheaper hotels (or in fact Australian hotels in general) which aren't all that accomodating for early checkins and late checkouts. And with a good alarm, bed at 10pm... wake up 1am and head to airport (depending on cutoff time) ...

If the price is low enough, I'm sure they will have pax willing to travel at this time:shock:

The $766 special return in "business" from OOL or SYD looks good compared to JQ. Will they match the sale price?

For a price match the Scoot services need to be at a comparable time. I’m not sure if they are or not, but worth a try. I think it has to be publicly bookable too, so a private members-only sale may exclude it.

Sorry, I was unclear. I meant I wondered whether they'd match the special with a sale of their own. I wouldn't expect an individual price match.

Just booked for a few days away. As noted earlier, the $88 fare (+$8 credit card fee) ex-Singapore to Gold Coast is billed in SGD - making $72AUD. Interestingly the ex-Australia fare is currently booking without any credit card (convenience fee) despite the members email fine print suggesting a $6.50AUD surcharge.

Ahh yes. I think they’d be more likely to respond if it was a public sale, but tomorrow will tell. :)

Definitely no price match - JQ don't do SYD or OOL to SIN. But a sale would be nice :)

It’s MEL and AKL isn’t it? Never flown them that way so really didn’t realise!
