A few years go I got one of those from a supposed copper in London. It was my sister supposedly i trouble. There are occasions when I excel myself in the quick thinking department.
I replied immediately - wonderful I am with my sister at the moment. her son is an Inspector working at Scotland Yard and we are just on the way to see him abut this very matter. Never heard from him again.

This scam is as old as methuselah, surely no-one falls for that any more - oh wait

My daughter got the same "hi dad" scam text today and showed me, said (jokingly)they must have got the dad/daughter ph numbers mixed.
Don't get scammed she said; I promised never to send or give her money no matter how convincing

I recently had two scam attempts on my card after returning from Europe.
Both attempts over a weekend and both from “uber eats”.

I used my card on vending machines to get water bottles to drink, very possibly one of the ones I used had a copier.
About the same time, I gave someone on Reddit one of those $5 prize gift things, and whamo, ...
A lot of zero dollars pre autho appeared, maccas delivery, doordash, and uber eats, etc, then an uber eats purchase appeared, for $25.23...
I complained to my bank, they refunded the money, so have never used vendos again, and am banned now from Reddit.
Wonder why uber eats cant upgrade their security.

Tell her to use code words, only the 2 of you will know.

Every week I receive a handful official looking stuff all in Portuguese from Brazil email addresses. I fed one through translator - some threat about a parking fine; another about my incoming shipment needing import taxes to be paid before delivery. All BS, all scams, all (very) mildly amusing.

Makes a change from months of dozens of emails allegedly from UK companies offering me freebies rewarding me for my excellent patronage. Haven't been to the UK since way before covid and then was only in transit.

I've been noticing a trend that I very rarely receive scam emails on weekends; are scammers now only working "business hours"

I was lucky enough to get an early gmail address of first name. last name @ gmail.com. Consequently I get a steady supply of legitimate email intended for my dopple gangers all over the world. get the confirmation emails for a neat "tire" program in Florida, another guy's supplement's subscription, multiple school reunions, a few parent groups wondering why the other me didn't volunteer.

The most convincing one and I am not sure if it is legitimate or a scam is a Bahamas based shipping company that sends holiday hour updates, rate charts, occasional freight forward docs, real addresses for Mr Albatross in the USA going places so it seems. But I think it is a really well built scam as the domains are not right but consistently not right. Who knows.

Also hover over sender, sometimes they use masks of themselves.

Genuine is of course (my.gov.au), but even then hover.
