Scams like these

The HiYa app seems to half work for me on the iPhone which I am quite pleased about.

Potential Scam calls are not being notified/ringing on the phone and only appear in the missed call list after the call has gone.

However they haven't got to SMS "tail" fixed yet. I still get an SMS from the Telco saying I have a missed call with no message.

When I check the number it comes up as reported by dozens of others before me as a scammer. From looking at the past reports the numbers have variously been Amazon or IRS or "rebate" or similar scams which I no longer get :D


BTW: I'm starting to feel left out - been at least three days since I got an AUSPOST or LINKT scam text 🤣

Linkt email you to go to your account and check your statement and balance…. No link to Linkt in the email… we also communicate via our e-tag which makes various beep types that signify low balance (below what you set up when you buy an etag), no credit and double beep (all OK)

I just read that back and sound like I am unhinged.

However the low balance beep usually prompts me to do adhoc top ups
 
Here’s one I’ve not seen before … trying to get rid of a bed & matching tables we don’t need, so place ad on Gumtree.
Bots send me a message asking about condition of the bed … first one I responded with actual info, it then responded with something about getting a $100 bed sent to Tumut via Pack & Send which seemed strange (as I didn’t know it was a bot yet) … then a totally different username sent me a question about item condition with the exact same characters in all 4 sentences, and when I responded that I was ignoring ‘cos it was a bot it gave me the same response about sending via Pack & Send to Tumut.

I guess it’s going to eventually ask me for some amount of money to pay for something-or-other in this whole thing … but given the irrelevance of the canned response to my answers, surely it can’t get many takers!
