Today I got spam emails from someone who has same name as one of my contacts so looks like an email from him but obviously different email address with spam link (‘photos’ to download)

Today I got spam emails from someone who has same name as one of my contacts so looks like an email from him but obviously different email address with spam link (‘photos’ to download)

We have been getting those in one of our friends name but with the incorrect address for about 18 months. The message changes slightly every time but always includes a request to open the link.

Have not had a Telstra landline for a decade. So no "recent transaction". Sent to my secondary email address, that was not used with Telstra. From an "it" Italian email, but probably not real. An Au business would never state 170AUD, just $170.
I never click on links in emails or text messages.

It’s the 3rd world, and is frequented by citizens of the 1st world wanting to exploit the 3rd world … hence plenty of desperate people PLUS plenty of marks.

So it seems that this "your contact" had his contact list being stolen or compromised... and this quite often occurs to peoples on FB.

I have a multiple similar recent emails from my friend who never send me any photo, but now get a couple. But it is not from his email but from a suspicious address:

.... and with suggested 2 photos under also a suspicious link:

www.fblod.hdrwoeec.xx_

I will see him tomorrow and ask him about these emails. He once had unpleasant experience and bought the Kaspersky security.

It's best to remove dodgy hyperlinks from posts so someone doesn't actually click on them - either change the .com to xx_ or something

I used to get repeated emails from an official FB email address saying my friend wanted me to / invited me to join FakeBook and see my pics he had posted. I didn't have a FB account.

I contacted him and he confirmed he had never and would never send me such and he had never uploaded a picture of me.

FB had accessed his contacts list and fabricated emails to his contacts to try and boost their declining membership base.

I had similar events, but email contact list was hijacked... and used to send out, including me, unwanted or obscure emails.

Usually FB users are not aware that their email contacts have been used by somebody else until recipients of unwanted emails from their contacts will ask them to clarify or confirm these cases...

Had a Linkt one again today, thought that after that guy got nabbed, it would stop, but nope.
Never had a license, never had a linkt account, so knew it was a spammy scam/scammy spam.
At 1.30am, linkt.linktlateau was the show up.
Not that the Aust govt could do anything much I guess, its a problem, esp for those who live where there are tolls, and its a time waster as well, in that have to find a few secs per day, maybe many times per day, to check their linkt account, ...
Who ever thought this was a good idea to start spam and using linkt was very cunning.
Even if 1 person took 1 sec, to log into their linkt account, if 100 people in Aust did that, that nearly 100 secs, gone, more than a min.

Set up a special "code word" when you share email addresses/phone numbers with people you trust.
Its a scam if the "friend" says by sms that they can't talk.

I heard that they purposely put spelling/grammar errors so people that reply are one's likely to fall for it. i.e. if people reply with the spelling/grammar errors they are likely to fall for the scam.
