Scams like these

years ago i did some basic research on how those nigerian prince scams operated out of curiosity

and I heard the opinion of "they make it sound so ridiculous, that it would eliminate anyone that was remotely switched on and would only work on the truly "guillable",
which kind of makes sense, as the scams these days are either quite good to totally ridiculous

Always be mindful that MyGov will never send a link to your mobile phone. They only ever remind you to visit the MyGov site.
I do click on certain emails with like Agoda, Booking.com, Webjet etc. Sometimes without really checking.

It'd be interesting if scammers ever started making their scam emails realistic.

I was checking my recent Amex transactions earlier today and noticed a charge from Uber for a ride at Toronto airport (YYZ). As I haven't been to this airport for over 20 years I figured it was fraudulent, but wondered how the fraudster did it. There was no activity showing on my Uber account.
I thought you had to have an account with a verified credit card before you could use Uber. As my Uber account wasn't used, I still wonder how they did it. And, as I've discovered, there was more than one of these charges from Toronto on my Amex card (now cancelled).

There is a chance that a seller on ebay has onsold your details.
I got a notification from my bank a few years ago, they said they noticed my card number has appeared on something called "listservices", ...
I do buy from ebay and Amazon, so maybe there was a leak somewhere.
Maybe the scammers had just got lucky somehow, as Buzzard said (random card generator) that the 15 digit card number matches with exp date and ccv#.
We all know amex starts with a 30xx and 11 other numbers,
Data matching maybe?

This seems to be a multinational scam utilising a number of languages. I was wondering about the grandiose title of "Chief of the Brigade of Protection" and it seems that similar is used in some of the 'foreign language' scam e-mails and may reflect an actual position in some other country. They have gone to a bit of work to get the names of various people in similar positions around the world. I would think a fairly big group of criminals is involved. My mind immediately turns to a country involved in a misfiring military adventure with a close neighbour.

Very likely imo.
It has been passed onto the ACCC scamwatch.

Just received this...

"Your order is available in our department" - strange choice of words"
"Shipping fee"- more likely in the UK to say postage fee or Postage and Packing or under paid postage.
"1.99 GBP" - £1.99 would be more usual or maybe GBP1.99

Hi sweetie!

Re: Blackadder's post, if you take a deep read of it, the writer's main language is not English.
Its either African/Indian/maybe Russian, but not English as a first language.
And for Oatek, here in Aust, the banks are ones to contact us, so you were right to say that when they say they are from both orgs, its a scam.
===
Its seems so easy to cut and paste a logo, hopefully the new Aust Anti Scam Centre can do something about esp Aust govt logos, to make it harder to cut and paste or to copy.

I received three emails from Olesya today, that featured two different photos, three different emails, but identical wording. She is obviously really desperate!

Greetings, I possess an awesome feeling with regards to you that I cannot really illustrate, if you might kindly tell me about your wellbeing so that I may become familiar with you far better. I am 35 yr old right now. I'm trying to find my real love. In case you actually do, perhaps we can have a discussion about it. My name is Olesya btw. I unquestionably demand somebody I could depend upon mainly because trust is probably the most vital tenets on which a heavy connection should be formed. I adore life and I try to appreciate each and every minute of that. I really hope that we shall talk about many things and this will become a significant and long-lasting companionship or even more. Kindly tell me everything you really feel.
