I have the option of coming back from LA (to MEL) on QF 94 direct or QF 26 via Aukland
The direct service is running a 747 (nominally) as is QF 26, although I believe it is a domestic-ish config AKL-MEL?

Extra time is not to much of an issue... Plus I get to check out AKL QP... Is the SC earn the same?

If the booking is QF26 LAX-AKL-MEL with the AKL arrival and AKL departure (i.e. a through segment) on the same day, it will credit as LAX-MEL.

Should be no different to how it used to be with the single aircraft. If they're the ticketed as LAX-MEL then it's the standard SC.

However given the long change-over time, well above any MCT, shouldn't it be possible to book as a multi-sector and fall under the same routing rules? That way you can pick up the extra SC.

the earn is the same, as it is a single flight number.

however, having done it once, a few years ago - by accident (and before they downgraded the planes), my advice is simple: don't do it.

it's a waste of time and nothing extra to be gained from it unless you want to factor in a stopover in NZ.
