Hi folks,

I need to figure out how many SC's i'd earn flying HKG to DXB. The Qantas earn calculator doesn't let you select Dubai, and I can't use the CX calculator because I'm not in the Marco Polo Club.

Any suggestions? I note the calculator on another thread (Miles Calculator ) doesn't come up with the right number of SC's when I plug in SYD to HKG.

HKG-DXB is about 3682 miles, which is zone 5 so SC earn is

30 discount economy
60 full economy
120 business
180 first

I don't have a calculator but the way I've been doing it is getting the miles using Great Circle mapper
And then the table on the QFF website SC table to work out the SC's per sector
It's manual, but it works..

I have a spreadsheet which does the same thing - lists mileage for lots of routes and link to handy table of SC and point earning.

Ahh ok thanks, so the same table applies to all OneWorld airlines?

For SC's yes - the only difference is which booking classes are full economy vs discount economy.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The pain about this trip is you only get half the points now on CX, regardless of what bucket you are booked in Y.

Its quite a difference when you look at a recent trip of mine. SYD-HKG on QF as a SG earns 6872 miles inclusing status bonus and 30 SC's. HKG-DXB on CX earns 1851 miles and 30 SC's. The second leg is 897 miles shorter.

If booked in B, H or Y, the same trip earning to AA by a candy thief would earn 16,530 miles.

But if booked in K would only earn 9162 miles since nothing earned on CX for hares below B/H. And if booked in less than K on QF leg it would have been 4581 miles.

So QF can still be good for CX flights when purchasing discount fares. But it does pay to look for AA codeshares on CX flights when they are available and eligible for booking. Then you still get the QF status bonus or AA miles for discount economy fares.

Thanks NM. I never though of booking the AA codeshare (if it is available) to get around that problem.

I have only done it once, though later found I could have done so on a few other occasions. And by booking the AA codeshare on a CX long-haul flight, my TA got a little confused and thought that since all my other AA flights were booked into A, perhaps this codeshare should be also  . So I got more than just the QF status bonus out of that one :D .

But I do expect you can only book the AA codeshare in conjunction with other AA flights. Not really sure as I have not seen any booking rules around it. I suspect it like the BA and AA codeshares on some QF domestic flights, which can only be booked in conjunction with AA or BA international services. And the QF codeshares on AA or BA metal in USA and Europe that can only be booked in conjunction with QF international flights. However, one can book the BA/QF codeshares on the Kangaroo Route, or the AA codeshares trans-Pacific without the connecting flights, so perhaps the AA codeshare on CX international flights can be booked separately.

Not sure about those rules, but I did have 6 other AA flights.

I flew CX889 last month on it's AA codeshare (AA6123), thereby increasing my QFF points earned from by 8,070 to 18,157. (Miles from JFK to HKG + 25% J bonus + 100% QF WP Bonus).

Don't you get the cabin bonus on CX? I know you don't get status bonus (only QF, BA and AA).

Yes, he would have earned the 25% cabin bonus for holding a D ticket no matter which OneWorld airline or code he flew. The only thing missing when using a OneWorld airline flight code oher than QF, AA or BA is the Status Bonus.

So it's not 8,000 odd vs 18,000 odd but rather 10,000 odd vs 18,000 odd. Still not bad for a simple switch of flight code.

Actually, it's the reverse; you get the cabin bonus on CX, not the Status Bonus.

I was originally booked CX889 and CX in CMB were very keen for this. They would not relent on my first transcon being on CX trather than the BA codeshare; as I was QF SG then it would have only been a 50% bonus anyway. As a result:
Code:
 25 OCT 05 CX 107 BUSINESS 22OCT05 HONG KONG/AUCKLAND 5,685 1,422 - 7,107 140
It was only after I have commenced the DONE4 that I changed to the AA6123 flight out of JFK.

Indeed. If there is no cost to use the codeshare flight number, then it money for jam, or points for old rope or any other old saying you like to apply.

There may be some 'costs' in that you might not get some of the priviges status might bring.

CX did warn me that I may not retain my allocated seat (I did). Also, perhaps I had less chance of an op. Upgrade to F. (It was showing F0 a week out so I don't thisk this would have been an issue).

I now have a lot more routes added to the spreadsheet.
