Each year I do a work related DONE 4 RTW trip booked by my TA through QF.

As most would understand when flying a DONE 4 (J OW RTW) in the USA on an AA flight you mainly get to fly in F as there are very few AA flights with 3 classes hence no J seats. (Most domestic AA flights are configured F & Y only)

When flying AA on a DONE 4 in F you get credited with F rates of SC’s and FF points by QF.

As some sectors I fly in the U.S. are on American Eagle who normally only offer one class Y…I have had a number of different results in what level of SC’s and QFF points that I have been initially credited with.

Sometimes F SC & FF points credited when flying Y on American Eagle.
Sometimes Y SC & FF points credited when flying Y on American Eagle

Last year when I took the issue of the crediting of Y SC & FF points to QFF eventually after many weeks of consideration I was credited with J SC’s and QFF points.

My questions are:

  • Has anyone else had this experience?
  • What is correct, should the credit be at J or F rates?
  • Is there any idea’s of how to get these SC’s and FF points credited at the correct rate automatically, as going through the QFF centre to sort it out every time is a pain.
The QFF agents that I have spoken too also seem unsure of how to handle this hence the slow feedback.

So far as I'm aware - if you're on an Eagle flight as part of a DONE* or you do something silly like I did and book a YUP fare on an Eagle flight - you're booked in to class Y and should therefore earn full Y FF points and SCs.

If you've been getting F or J points and SCs for Eagle flights, you've done very well indeed.

Agreed.

It all is supposed to depend on the booking class of each segment, as per the following from the QFF T&C's:
Code:

A Done 4 on US segments normally allows you to book in P but not all flights offer F seats so then I suppose the question is can you book in P when there are only Y seats on the plane?

Last year wanting to get from LAX to TPA I flew LAX –MIA–TPA. The LAX- MIA segment was on on a 3 class 777 in J, so I got J SC’s and points, fine with me but MIA–TPA I ended up on American Eagle flight in Y so initially Y credits where issued.Norally this would have been an AA flight so may be I was unlucky.

The year before I went AA LAX-DFW-TPA all in F on an MD80 so F credits.

The year before that I went AA LAX-DFW-MSY-MIA-TPA in F on MD 80’s all the way, so F credits where issued…it appears that sometimes it’s the luck of the draw as it depends on the type of plane you end up on.

The bottom line with my thinking is that I have paid for a J class RTW ticket (DONE 4) so I should automatically get at least J credits for each segment. Even when I am made to fly in a lower class due to the planes configuration.

Of course my thinking may be wrong!

It does not allow P class to be booked.

if on AA on a 2 class US domestic flight where no business class is offered, then it can be booked in 1st class in A class
If on an Americann Eagle domestic US flight (which has no 1st class cabin), it can be booked in Y
In all other AA cases , it books in business class (D) or, if not available, economy (L)

Points will be earned as 1st class in A , business class in D, Full economy in Y or discount economy in L

Thanks Dave…very clear now.

I assume this is also the case with BA as with my normal DONE 4 itinerary by far the most difficult leg to get in J is always on BA LHR-CPT.

This is because it must be booked in business class (D) and BA obviously releases very few business class (D) seats on this flight.

So if I miss out on a (D) seat here and have to fly in Y, again I can only expect Y credits?

If you have to fly economy on BA, then you will be booked in L class and so ( on most routes ) only 25% miles plus discount economy Status Credits will be earned
