Bitten,
This is going to be hard!!
I fully understand that a “3hr connection” was tempting at the time of booking, but there are a couple of difficulties that you are going to struggle to overcome. Overall I rate your chance of making the Sky flight VERY slim. Sorry L But at the same time, if everything goes really well, it just may work out. If you cannot change things now, then at least make sure you go into this knowing you are probably going to fail, so not only have a Plan B, but actually believe that you will probably be using it.
The main problems you face are the following:
(1) QF27 may be scheduled to arrive at 11:05 hrs, but I think it averages about 40 minutes late.
(2) You have to pay the reciprocity fee which takes extra time, then go through immigration after wating for bag, so at least 30 mins from aircraft door to getting through, and that with incredible luck.
(3) You need to checkin with Sky, a Low Cost Carrier – and technically I think they require you to present 3hrs prior for an international flight.
If you are going to attempt this, the best tricks and advice I can give are the following:
(1) QF27 parks at a new gate a long way from the recip fee/immigration area – use this to RACE to get to the ricprocity counters before too many others catch up and pass you.
(2) After paying the reciprocity fee, as you approach the immigration queues, the left hand side is for Chileans, the right is for all foreigners. If there is a large amount in the, just line up in the Chilean queue – they will process you no worries – the Chilean queue normally moves much faster and they often divert foreigners to it when waiting times are high.
(3) As soon as you get down to the baggage collection area, ascertain which belt it is, and if they haven’t started coming out yet, have a look to make sure you know where you have to go through customs – it is usually a little way past where the carousel is. Use a luggage trolley – they are free.
(4) When you get through Customs, race out barging through all the taxi people and crowds. Keep going straight ahead until you find the first lift you can, and head up to level 3 Departures.
(5) I have not used Sky, but they could be like Latam in that their checkin is divided into domestic and international, even though they appear to all be lumped together.
(6) Don’t be shy to push to the front if there is a long queue – if you tread on others and manage to get through to the staff that you are fearful of missing the cutoff, this may save you. But probably not J
Your whole battle is to turn up for checkin before they close the flight. You cannot speed up the baggage collection – just make sure that you use the tips above to make sure you get to the carousel before the bags arrive.
Then race for the checkin!!!!!!!!!
