As you know AFF is generally pretty tolerant about what our members can post on AFF – as long as a post meets our posting guidelines, it's OK.
While this policy has served us well and adds to the diversity and vibrancy of our community, it does at times lead to conflict. This is especially true when the topic is controversial and political.
Subject to High Court approval, Australia will soon be conducting a postal survey regarding “Same Sex Marriage”/”Marriage Equality”. I have no doubt that this is going to be one of those topics – it's controversial, political, personal and very emotive. It also has absolutely nothing to do with airline travel (our core business).
In consultation with our moderators, I have therefore taken the decision to not allow ANY discussion on this topic on AFF. Any post which discusses this topic – no matter how well intended – will be removed without warning or notification. Repeat attempts to post about this will result in an official warning or an infraction.
There are plenty of places on the internet where you can discuss this topic, but please not on AFF!
It gives me no pleasure in curtailing free speech on AFF, and this is actually the first time I have done so proactively. But I think that the topic is potentially very divisive and will jeopardise the harmony of our community. So best to act now, and prevent any potential ill-will.
