Hi

Apologies if has been answered or common knowledge...searched for previous thread but not found.

Arriving MEL 7AM for work but don't need to be in town until 10AM and departing MEL later that day at 5PM.
Can I access QF lounge after arriving MEL for an hour or so - or will they knock me back for being too early.

Appreciate any assistance.

Cheers

Interesting question; keen to know the answer also. I'm under the impression people from the red eye ex PER are allowed in, but not sure if that's only SYD.

You can only access the lounge on arrival if you have arrived from PER or you have Platinum status with QF.

However as you have a BP for an onward flight that day this should suffice to permit entry.
I am not aware of any time limits for entry prior to flight departure.

I've always thought you were only knocked back for being "too early" if using a lounge pass to gain entry. So if you had status and arrived in the AM for a PM flight, I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed access, if not looked at a bit strangely ;)

Me neither.

Let us know how you get on OP!

I would think if you flash the boarding pass they will be focused on status level not time of the flight as you keep walking past.

If you're travelling alone give it go.

Your membership entitles you to lounge entry on the day of travel. Time doesn't matter. You'll be fine.

I am thinking yes... I have done it a few times but was WP so that is not relevant...

The rule is "next onward flight that day", there are no conditions attached to that. So I don't see why it's such a surprise that access was allowed!

I could not see this answered anywhere else or on the QF site.

My aunt is flying the red eye Sunday night PER-MEL on QF648 with a 2:50 hour layover before connecting to QF2281 MEL-LST early Monday morning.

Flights are on the same ticket, she has booked paid Y but I have submitted a points upgrade request with my account to try and make it a less stressful experience as she is in her 60s and not an experienced traveller.

There is no J on the Dash 8 for QF2281 otherwise I would have submitted an upgrade for that leg as well.

If the upgrade clears would she have J lounge or QP access in MEL based on her J boarding pass and onward connecting QF flight?

Yes she will have access if the upgrade clears

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but i have a related question to this previous one, but slightly different.

I understand in the above case, SponsorSFC's aunt would have access to the QF J lounge because lounge access on arrival is granted for trans con flights.

I am about to fly SYD-MEL-LST and am thinking about upgrading using flights on the SYD-MEL flight. The MEL-LST is a Dash 8 without J.

How likely do you think it is that I could swing access to the MEL lounge in between flights? I believe that the rules do not allow access, but I have found (a few years ago) that often the guardians of the lounge will let in a J passenger after their flight.

Does anyone have experience here? Would they allow access seeing as though MEL-LST doesn't have business available? (I don't have status)

No. You would need WP or above status for arrivals access except for red-eye (i.e. overnight transcontinental flights).

Pretty unlikely, if you were let in I'd say they weren't paying full attention or were being generous.

I believe that the rules do not allow access

That's correct.

Would they allow access seeing as though MEL-LST doesn't have business available?

Unfortunately there isn't an exemption in the lounge access rules for that scenario.

My advice would be to check the "I'm in the QF Lounge" thread on the day and see if anyone is able to guest you in. Or if it's next Friday morning/evening I could guest you myself!
