Safety/Security of Airline supplied lounges

I've always wondered why the QP is the only place in an airport that you can leave baggage unattended without returning to find the bomb squad poking at it.

It's not like the QP is exclusive - Anyone can buy a J ticket online, use OLCI and wander in without any queries or checks at all.

That said, it would suck not being able to leave bags unattended while getting food and drinks in this age of very limited seating in the lounge. (Maybe that's how that can 'enhance' things to cut down the cost of booze...)

I am lucky that I do not travel with a laptop and I hardly ever have carryon so not really an issue to leave personal belongings laying around. I had carryon with me yesterday in BNE and SYD Qantas Lounges and it hardly left my sight as I made sure I was close to the bar or food area.

I always have the wallet in my back pocket, passport, boarding pass and mobile phone is in my shirt pocket and other travel documentation is in a travel wallet which fits into my jacket or trouser pocket.

I usually stuff everything that might beep in the top pocket of my laptop bag to go through security - wallet, keys, coins, passport, BP, mobile, PDA, iPod...

Of-course I then get to the lounge, plonk the bag down and immediately go off wandering to get a drink and newspaper. It does feel a little uneasy but I've always thought it'd be ok.

Will have to take more care I think. Laptop apart, if I lost all that lot I couldn't even prove who I was to continue my trip.

Cheers,
Steve.

I have to be honest, I do the same, but I always try to find a seat in plain view of the food serving area. I have left my bag a few times to use the facilities, but only in SQ lounges. Somehow I have a feeling they are safe, and Singaporeans are such sticklers for rules.
I definitely would not leave my stuff behind in contract lounges, especially in subcontinent. It is bad enough being harrassed by lounge staff for tips! I am sure they would not hesitate to help themselves to a couple of year's worth of income if the opportunity arose!
