I just paid for dinner at a Rydges and was told that yesterday some major "crazy" changes were announced to staff. She suggested that the platinum discount was being discontinued.

With no upgrades, no international reward redemption (ok, a little bit but not much), really no recognition at all, it is getting a little hard to be excited by Priority Guest Rewards. I suppose that they are pushing members toward GHA.

There has been so little discussion of Rydges, I am kind of curious if anyone cares!.?

I wonder if we will lose shareholder benefits-basically the same as Plat benefits.
I think you are right it probably will all become GHA.Must research it a bit more.

The 50% off dinner is the only perk I use as platinum. Take that away and the programme becomes worthless.
Having said that, it is almost a "too good to be true" benefit that I'm surprised it has lasted for so long.

Really uninspired by GHA benefits. I guess I prefer points and upgrades, but many of the experiences are just poor. And unless they are something I need to do anyway (like eating a meal), then I need to plan time for them too.

That said, I don't think I've stayed in a Rydges since 2006 so GHA is mostly an international thing for me.

Logged into my account today and was surprised to see they have changed the layout and benefits to each tier.I had lost interest in maintaing gold or even attaining platinum but may now change my mind considering 15% off best online rate for top 2 levels.

I just found out about the changes a few days ago & I'm a bit confused.

1. Website is requesting to upgrade my Priority Rewards account to GHA - is there any reason why I shouldn't do this?
2. We've been primarily staying at Rydges due to their Melbourne location, but can look at moving over to another rewards program if more beneficial. Any of you have recommendations for a program to hop to? Or any websites reviewing and comparing different programs?

Thanks.

Rydges have revamped their program and now offer Gold, Platinum, and Black cards. Gold is free the others depend on nights or stays. Seems Black has taken over from Platinum and offers 15% off best rates plus 50% off meal and drinks.
Gold and Platinum offer 20% off meals and drinks.
I think the varying options of money off accommodation and drinks, plus a drink on arrival and late checkouts make this a worthwhile card to have. You could use as primary card or back up. I do the latter.
You get get the new card next time you check in, just got mine at QT Gold Coast. If you opt in to GHA it's a co branded card that you can use for the benefits at GHA hotels.

To my irritation, when they switched to the "new" levels, I went from Gold as the mid-level and getting some benefits to Gold as the base again, so they basically reset the year on me and I'd only had one stay since making it up from the base level. Not they it did much (they put me on a higher floor apparently), but I did like it was going to get me closer to reward nights.

I would have thought they'd put me mid-level on the new system, but no sign of that so far (though it did take about a month for them to put me up to Gold after doing the required stays it begin with, so maybe they're just slow).

Hey. Got an email today, outlining new benefits , ( only stayed once at Rydges). Thanks for registering with your GHA Discovery account. We are pleased to inform you of your new tier level. Platinum level (probably doesn't mean much, but I'll take it). Seems when you register with the 2 program's, you get a tier level upgrade. Hope that makes sense.

Had the same problem sent them an email now account shows platinum.

I have also heard from front desk staff that PGR is being phased out. The webpage indicates business as usual with a new GHA Discovery "experience", but free nights everywhere seem to have vanished.

Doesn't look healthy.

I got my new GHA platinum card in the mail today, a bit odd considering I stayed with the group less then 10 nights over the last 2 years.
At least they remembered to put an expiry date this time, unlike the Rydges platinum card I got years ago with no expiry date on it, which indeed never expired :D

Hey just checked the card, recently received Platinum (free upgrade cause registered with GHA account ). There's no expiry date on the card. I wonder how long the benefits will last ......

Just been researching hotels in MEL for an upcoming stay, so now understand the merger of Rydges PRIORITYGUEST into GHA. I'm a base member (last stay 2012) but I haven't received any email or written advice from Rydges (not surprised). This program is well below my preferred program (Hilton) - but their rates are good for my stay, whereas Hilton and others want me to sell my first born.

Anybody got any promo codes ;)...

It's a funny programme, mine shows Jan 16.
I guess their strategy now is reducing benefits and handing out platinum cards to everyone.
Maybe they learned a few tricks from Hertz ;)

Well, I'm a GHA member; joined earlier this year as I stay at the ParkRoyal at MEL a few times a year and did a stint at a Kempinski also.

Currently Scum Gold. Not intending to chase status - doesn't seem that worthwhile. BUT if they are handing Platinum out willy-nilly I think I'll send an e-mail

Well, perhaps they KWIA , as an email from them early this morning was buried in my Spam folder - lucky I found it as I was checking for another email:

Pity they don't status match, HH Diamond would have come in handy...still, free internet and bottled water is better than nothing.

They give GHA Gold to anyone who joins the program.

Don't lose your login details as it seems to be almost impossible to get them back.

Well, as Gold is the base membership, quite understandably.

No problems, email saved and stored in our server now and for good measure, have saved to my personal SharePoint file as well :D

Seems that even over on FT, they bemoan the fact that there is no status matching.
