(rumour) QFi to withdraw from Perth

I think one of the problems is with the International Airport in Perth. Before Customs ... not too bad. After Customs ... dreadful really. There is very little to see in terms of shopping, the cafes are ordinary and after around 3 minutes you have seen it all. The Qantas Club in International? The most dreadful place really. Like a reasonably sized prison cell, very few windows, ordinary food and even more ordinary staff. If I ever find myself flying out of Perth International I just wouldn't go in to the Qantas Club.

Hopefully QFi will address this in the new Airport upgrade as it has gone on much too long.

More windows then the J Lounge in HKG?

Its because the product out of Perth is really average.

Bring on A380s to Singapore/Asia from Perth, and then they will have an equivalent product with EK/SQ/etc

If thats the case, they are going to lose a lot from Perth domestic as well. I suspect many like myself only regularly fly QFi business with work is the benefits for family on domestic routes with lounges etc. If they pull out my only option is SQ and Virgin domestic combo. It will have knock on consequences.

I haven't been in another AUS international QP but I never found it that bad a product. It's just a lounge, quite (except right before flight time), some food and enough alcohol for most. I don't blame them for the lack of windows as I know it's a function of space and, with PER int terminal the way it is, they don't have much to work with. Are the others in Syd/Mel/Bne better?

It's interesting how QF is gradually making it harder for those of us in the West to fly with them. When WP1 was introduced I went back and looked over my flying for the last few years and noticed that whilst my typical SC earn has been fairly constant at around 5000/yr the SCs with a magical ~ has been dropping (from 4000 four years ago to 2900 for the year that's just about to end). The major difference being in flights to Asia (China and Korea I now use CX or more recently SQ as I can never seem to find QF flights to fit my schedule). If Qantas stop flying internationally out of Perth then this will likely push all of my UK/Europe travel onto other carriers, probably EK or SQ. It's then only a small step to move my US/Canada/South America travel onto the same carrier to chase a high status level there.

Shame really - I always quite like flying with Qantas

I don't feel that PER is an ideal for the 380 yet.
It seems that SQ are chopping and changing the PER product. I have seen 773, 330 and it now looks like the 772 is coming back for all SQ flights out of PER.
With EK you have 3-4-3 in Y, so again 10 across in a 777 isn't that great in itself.

There is something more than just the product causing the issues (flight times, costs, destinations?)

Not sure mannej. I have only been in HKG a couple of times and being Platinum have only been in the First Class Lounge, which I thought was very good.

From memory there are no windows, apart from the windows at the door.

It may be just too late.. Like shutting the gate after the horse has bolted..:!:

Could be some negotiations going on with Perth Airport now regarding the new terminals. Perhaps it's all just QF placing some pricing pressure on the airport....

Watching QF dismantling their international network is like watching someone playing jenga near the end.

Perhaps a reduction to 1xdaily to SIN, nothing to HKG, and a codeshare with EK or QR and MH. I do not see QF leaving PER completely.

How to make a small QFi...

Step 1: Take a fair bit larger QFi
Step 2: Add Alan

Just wait awhile... as inevitable as gravity we know where it's going

Hmmm maybe but I don't think that is true and in any case Simon Hickey has now been the top job for QFi and he IS a good operator! He did a really good job with Frequent Flyer.

When 1 SIN - PER flight lands at 01h40 and the other 04h40 and QF wonder why the loads are low! Especially the pointy end.

If QF pull out of Perth how am I going to use all my QFF points. Jetstar to Bali  Yuk!
