Rule over charging mobile phones, laptops extended to UK

Turn your phones on, turn your phones off...wish they'd make up their minds....

Could be interesting if they enforce this rule during transit given that not all planes have power in Y.

Geez, you wouldn't want to be the poor sod in security that had the job of turning devices on......assuming that's how the coughs intend on arming/detonating the thing.

I can see it now. Devices going off in the line because security required it turned on.

Really, are these idiots at DHS and DfT capable of thinking?
But what's worse is the idiots at Australia's DIT are just as bad.

One would assume they have the power to insist that the owner turn them on rather than doing it themselves?

Of course if anything happened the perpetrator could be charged with battery.

So the rule about not using mobile phones in immigration/ security area will be removed?

And if the phone goes flat during the flight then what?
I guess a working phone (charged) on boarding would be less likely to be part of an explosive device than a "phone" like device apparently not working due to a "flat bettery".

What happens later (battery flat or not) is not of further concern.

It would be when you have a connection.
eg, flying BOS-xLHR-FCO. Battery goes flat on BOS-LHR flight. Can't turn it on at connection screening at LHR...
