Hi All ... I am a new member and this is my first post.

I was hoping for some pointers on booking RTW with Qantas FF Points in J Class....
My understanding is that RTW J Class were available for 280,000 Points plus taxes.
I have tried on Qantas website using Multi City Classic Rewards which worked out to approx. 420,000 points.
The using the Round the World option only allows to purchase the ticket and not use points.
Maybe I am missing something?
I have read where it is easier to use 2,500 points and have Qantas arrange the flight but would like to get a feel for what is available first.
We are looking at travelling from July/ Aug 2016 from Melbourne to South America - Canada and onto UK and Europe then back to Melbourne.
We are flexible on flight direction and stopovers at this stage.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and help...
John

Hi John Retired,

You will most likely need to book this over the phone, but can use the Qantas multi-city booking tool (selecting "Search Classic flight rewards") to search for possible routings/award availability.

In business class it should be 280K points. If it came up as 420K, this suggests to me that either one or more legs is in first class (not business), or that only one oneworld airline other than Qantas is being used. At least two oneworld airlines other than QF must be included in your itinerary. It may also be the case that the itinerary is greater than 35,000 miles or you have more than 5 stopovers - both of which are oneworld award limits.

Also, I would suggest searching for each leg individually on the QF site (Melbourne - South America, South America - Canada etc.) to make things a bit easier. If you want to check that your mileage is under the 35,000 mile mark, this is a useful website: http://www.gcmap.com/

Good luck.

And to add to what Matt said, I'd focus on searching for the 'major' flights first e.g. you'll be able to fly to Chile from Sydney or Auckland, getting to either of them from Melbourne isn't a problem so search for the 'hard to get' major flights first.

You'll probably want to sign up for accounts with British Airways or American again just to search for availability as Qantas does not show everything. Also flagging right now Emirates is not oneworld, so look at their flights.

Read up on the thread others have linked too, these awards are quite complex if you're new coming into them. So much easier to finally ring up and rattle off a list of flights to reservations that you know are available. You'll also be able to get the most out of the award - you should find you'll be able to add some extra flights staying well within the limit.
