Hi all

My partner and I will be going to London soon for a working holiday and then to travel Europe and some of the US. We're looking for a RTW ticket which will allow us to backtrack from London - NYC. We want to visit NY during our stay in London, rather than when we leave.

It's also essential we can look around Europe after travelling via Asia to London.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Geoff.

None of the OneWorld fares will permit two Trans-Atlantic crossings on the one fare. So OneWorld Explorer (xONEx) and Global Explorer (xGLOBxx) will not do it for you.

I am not familiar with the Star Alliance RTW deals.

The only way I know of doing a backtrack is if you have to go through a Hub. EG. London is a hub for BA and Chicago O'Hare is one for AA (I think).

Backtracking within a region/area/continent (definitions vary depending on the fare type) is generally permitted. But crossing a major ocean (Pacific, Atlantic, Indian) more than once is generally not permitted on any of the OneWorld products. So even using a regional hub is not going to get the OP from London to USA and back to London.

I know Star Alliance have a distance-based RTW fare, but I don't know anything about restrictions such as multiple crossings of the Atlantic.

Star Alliance RTWs don't allow backtracking between zones
TRAVEL MUST INCLUDE ONLY O N E TRANS-ATLANTIC
CROSSING (BETWEEN AREA 1 AND AREA 2)AND ONLY
O N E TRANS-PACIFIC CROSSING (BETWEEN AREA 1 AND
AREA 3).

This is taken from the rules for the StarLite fare, but appears to apply to all of the Star RTW fares.

Why cant you move visit to New York until after finished in London and Europe?

As others mention, cannot have two trans-atlantic crossings on a RTW. So if want to visit London before and after New York, you'd need a separate ticket either New York - London - xx_ (taken after leaving London for New York where xx_ in North America) or London - New York - London.
