Hi, Getting a cruise across the Atlantic later in the year, so need to fly into Amsterdam and then fly home from somewhere in the US (east coast) or maybe Totonto.

Have been researching RTW tickets and some would allow this, but others don't allow this missing leg (cruise across Atlantic).
Am I best to buy one way tickets ? Or is there a cheaper way ?

Thanks

Two one way tickets would usually be more expensive, although you can get surprises.
Try multi city bookings.
I searched using multi-city assuming SYD as a departure point and NYC as your US port leaving 10 August and returning 15 September.
WIth CX the cost would be $1421 AUD in Y or $7208 in J. There is a slightly cheaper AA fare in J for $7182.
As one way flights, I could find SYD-AMS in Y for $721 on China Eastern ($3592 on China Airways in J), the CX fare would be $1132 ($5311).
One way NYC-SYD on the same date would be $764 ($4787) with Hawain Airlines, the CX fare would be $1675 ($8427).
So the total as two one way tickets could be as little as $1485 in Y or $8379 in J.
That makes two one way tickets only $66 more expensive in Y and $1197 in J.
Which is much less than I expected.
Obviously the picture may be completely different on your actual dates.

Though the cheap one ways are usually cheap for a reason.

in the above example, one is with China Eastern, and the Chinese ones often have cheaper one way prices... but their onboard product isn't the best. Similarly, the Hawaiian one is a good price - but that's likely because it comes with a 22 hour stopover in Honolulu, making the trip 44 hours long! You'd probably want to make that a stopover - which would likely increase the price, as well as have time and other cost impacts.

As above, I'd say your best deal likely comes from a multi city/open jaw booking.

You could consider a return SYD-AMS (using example dates, as low as $1050 in Y or $4500 in J) then a separate one way US/Canada - AMS at the end of the cruise in Y or J or a good use of FF points (using Skyscanner as low as $200 JFK-AMS in Y)

There is a Swiss fare that allows the open jaw over the Atlantic that typically works out well. Is this in Business or Economy?

Thanks for the great replies, plenty of food for thought.
will post back what I work out.
Cheers
