I had the most points, so made a J award for myself and husband CX BNE/LHR 1/9/16 from my account.

As we have to make 2 flights within Europe - LHR/BCN and VCE/MUN followed by LHR/BNE I suddenly thought about making this into a RTW 280,000 point J award for both of us.

I now have 250,000 points, husband 350,000 points.

I now realise that I should have booked the first flight BNE/LHR from each of our accounts and not both from mine.

Is there any way to rectify this? I have never done one of these before but have been studying the posts about it on AFF for some time to learn how this works since we do similar trips to Europe every year.

I would be very grateful if someone can help me sort this out if it is possible.

Thanks very much.

Just transfer points from your husbands account in to yours. Easy done. You are allowed to transfer a max 400,000 per 12 month period.

Thanks for your reply.

Please can I run this past you just to make sure I understand what will happen.

First I work our how many extra points I need in my account to do the 2 J RTW award flights and transfer them from my husbands account to mine.

The day I wish to book LHR/BNE, I find availability on line, ring QF and ask them to book this flight and add it to the previous BNE/LHR that I have already booked. Book with them my LHR/BCN and MUN/LHR flights and make all these bookings into a RTW award for 280,000 each plus taxes.

Thank you to anyone who can confirm this is how I do this or point me in the right direction if not.

PS sorry forgot to ask. I think I can transfer a max of 100,000 every 3 months. Is this right?

can transfer 4 x 100000 one after the other,(if haven't done any in the previous 12 months, then none for next 12 months).
No need for 3 months apart...

Yes, you've got it right sanne. It's important you keep all flights for both of you on the same booking number. My understanding is that there's no 3 month wait between transferring points but it may be a few days or so.

Plus 8,000 points x 2 change fee for changing your existing booking. Maybe even another 5,000 for an assisted booking fee (not entirely sure if you'll be stung that one).

It is 3500 points per person change fee. No 5000 fee for a business class booking.

So yes add a few more points in for your transfers not exactly 560k for the two of you.

Otherwise you are on the money. Just call up and keep adding changing flights. What will happen on your account is they actually 'refund you' and charge you the new total each time. Except when it is maxed out at the 280k then it just stays at that.

Thanks for all that advise. All a lot clearer now. So basically if I've got it right, I transfer enough points over to my account. Ring up Qantas to add another booking to my original booking and this will cost me 3500 points x2 each time. On the final booking, the points are adjusted to total 280,000 x 2.

I will be using CX for the long haul and BA for intra Europe. I believe that fits with the rules for One World RTW. Please advise if that is so.

Thanks guys, and sorry for all the questions that to you all seem obvious. I just want to make sure I get it right and then will be very pleased to have finally joined the club!! A RTW J for 280,000 points.

Why don't you call Qantas first, and then transfer the required points right then once the number is quoted? The transfer is instantaneous, so you can do that while you are on the phone with QF.

I didn't know that - good advice. Thanks.

Not quite right sanne...
On the final booking the points used will be 280,000 x 2 PLUS 7,000 x Z, where Z = the number of times you rang back to add/change flights.

J

Got it! Thanks.

Do you have to use points or can you pay $ for the change/add fee?

My understanding is that there is no provision for payment in $$$s instead of points.
Refer extract from the Fee Schedule:
Change Fee - For Classic Flight Reward changes: 3,500 Points per passenger.

On a related note...
This doesn't apply to your current proposed booking, because it is in J Class, but if you were making an equivalent booking in Y Class (or PE), then there would also be an 8,000 point service fee per passenger for each change/add (and that can add up a bit...)

In a couple or family setup, definitely use transfers to consolidate the points.

Best option is to transfer to whoever has the highest FF status, and that person should make the bookings. This will not only give you the widest selection of award flights, you'll also get more seat selection options, particularly the the booker is gold or plat.
