Royal Brunei have come out with some business class fares for travel beginning prior to 31 Oct. Must be booked by end of june.

You can get $1200 dollar fares if you go through flight centre, expedia etc. but the dates are fixed.

You can book $1400 fares through the Royal Brunei site that do have changeable dates, but still must meet the condition of travelling prior to 31 Oct.

Other conditions also apply.

And for those that need alcohol, Royal Brunei use the Qantas Lounge so you could fill yourself up there prior to departure.

I can't seem to find a reference to this lounge sharing on the BI website, would you have a link handy?

It doesn't appear on their website, you would have to give them a call.

I know they use the Qantas lounge in Brisbane, I don't know which lounge they are using in Melbourne.

They don't allow business class passengers to have a guest either.

No sign of access to a lounge anywhere.

Didn't we have some sort of 'Unoffical Offical' rep from Royal Brunei not to long ago?

I flew Royal Brunei business class return BNE to AKL about 2 years ago (i think they have stopped flying this segment now). Had access to Qantas lounges at both BNE and AKL.

There were only 3 passengers (including myself) in business class in a rather worn 767.

Royal Brunei code share With United Airlines in Melbourne (Red Carpet Lounge). Just called them and that is what they told me.

We are looking at these flight for our flight to China in September. Not sure on this carrier though, the reports seem t be hit and miss or a very basic offering for business class. Cn anyone confirm if this airline is worth or? Or just go economy on VA or Qantas or a mother full service carrier ?

Is it NO ALCOHOL................for me that's an important factor..............
but then again, a couple of sherbets in the lounge before you leave......sleep all the way.

Heres some reviews, a few business reports in amongst.

Royal Brunei Business Class - FlyerWiki

From a quick read myself it seems that folks who thought they were going to get the latest full service / top end business class were disappointed but mostly the reviewers seem to think it was value for money. Perhaps a J- experience in modern terms? Photos of the cabins look fine to me, but I don't have any clue as to how old those photos may be. There are repeated references in flyers reviews of 'tired' and 'old' so perhaps the photos are from some time ago when things were still fresh.

I believe Royal Brunei have leased some ex Singapore Airlines 777 and now have extra capacity in J which they are trying to fill.

The flight from Aust to BWN will be in a lie flat seat but the flight after that would be in a normal business class seat. I have checked their pitch on Seat Guru SeatGuru Seat Map Royal Brunei Airlines Boeing 777-200 (777)

and it looks OK.

I am flying BNE - BKK in July /Aug and will hopefully take some photos and give some details to be posted after arrival in BKK.

The current special you are looking at looks pretty good and would be hard to beat.

The main drawback that I see is the 5 hour layover in BWN, but for the price I can handle it.

Yeh,

My research uncovered the same thing regarding the seat. What is the second haul configuration in business then? and what would the flight time be?

for me that late night flight is ideal for the 2 yr old as he should hopefully sleep through. the 5 over layover will also break up the flight for him and give him some time to run around and burn of some energy for the second leg.

I don't normally drink on planes, so the lack of alcohol mean little to me.

I'm also starting to think it will be hard to beat. The only downside is I will not be able to earn SC with Velocity.

my other option is to book BNE-SIN on VA economy and hope my status gets me a free upgrade...

The BWN airport is very very small. There is a complimentary tour for the layover for those that have time and want it.

The flight time from BWN to SHanghai is 4 Hours 15 M on an A320. The seat config is on Seat Guru

If you book your flight through a TA you can then ring the RB office direct and ask them to allocate you the seats you want.

Flights to Auckland, Brisbane, Perth, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuching[/h]Bandar Seri Begawan - National Flagship Carrier Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) announced yesterday that it will be suspending services to Auckland, Brisbane, Perth and Ho Chi Minh City effective after the last scheduled flights of October 2011.
Flights to Kuching will also be suspended after the last scheduled flight of July 2011.
Sources indicated that this is part of the airline's major "restructure". The rationale behind the suspension, according to a statement from the airline, comes as the company "moves forward with a comprehensive and sustainable plan to improve its operations, financial performance and customer service experience".
RBA's Deputy Chairman Dermot Mannion said, "It was not an easy decision to reduce RBA's route network. However, it is the first step towards creating a stronger foundation that will allow the airline to enhance our value to customers, employees, and society."
It is not immediately known how the move will affect the airline's staff, but it is understood they will be offered redundancy packages or alternative employment with the airline, according to MICE Asia-Pacific and Business Travel News, a Business Tourism News Magazine based in Australia.
When contacted, the airline's Corporate Communications declined to divulge further details, but the press release said it's part of stabilisation plan.
The unexpected move caught the general public and also travel agents by surprise and is expected to come as a blow to UK travellers who book on RBA's flights en route to Australasia. The airline is known for its attractive pricing in both business and economy classes.
This might also hamper Brunei's efforts in making the country as the main gateway to Borneo, as tourists from UK and Australia planning to make stopovers here will need to divert their routes.
Speaking to the Bulletin, Chris Robles, Brunei Tourism Board's Director of Marketing & Promotion said it might impede Brunei's connectivity and may cause a negative impact on the number of tourist arrivals here. "We tend to lose transit passengers especially from Australia and UK. Brunei has a reputation of being a convenient destination for these transiting passengers," he said.
He revealed that the Sultanate has recorded a steady increase in the number of Australian and New Zealand tourist arrivals.
"About 20,000 travellers from Australia and New Zealand arrived here last year and it was an increase from the previous year."
However, Chris said it's time for them to "rethink their strategies" and "adapt to it". "We need to find ways to compensate this loss and continue to develop the market by coming up with alternative and creative solutions," he said.
Passengers who have purchased tickets for travel on the date of suspended flights are asked to contact the travel agents from whom they have purchased their tickets or their nearest RBA ticketing office.

We bit the bullet and booked these flights!

I'll let everyone know of our experience, it could turn out to be a shame they are dropping this route.

I have just arrived in BWN enroute to BKK and am currently sitting in the Skylounge. On arrival at checkin was given a pass to the Bne Qantas lounge and BWN sky lounge. The seating in J in the 777 is 3 x 2.There were five empty seats. One next to me.The seats are the lie nearly flat variety and are quite wide. The seats are starting to show their age but are very comfortable. The IFE is not very good. It is useable and has a selection of games and movies that run on a loop. The food was ok and not great. The cabin staff were excellent. Very pleasant ladies that worked thru out the flight. The sky lounge is quite spacious and has a good selection of food and beverage (NO ALCOHOL).It is a shame that they will not be flying out of Bne for much longer.
