It is common for carriers on the same alliance to be able to access any booking from member carriers.

I don't think they even need to be on the same alliance - I added a few ANA domestic PNRs to the QF app this morning. Assuming the PNRs just need to exist in the same GDS (Amadeus in this case) for it to be possible.

I was not aware of that. How bizarre! I understand they are all members of an alliance but it never occurred to me that each would be able to look at bookings that had absolutely no content pertaining to that carrier.

Tried this on a LH booking and seats stuck, but when I went to look on LH website it wanted to charge me!!!
Sheepishly had to call LH and get them to cancel and say I accidentally selected seats when updateing mynQF seat selection 😳

Likewise, added an SAS booking to my app and have no problems with it displaying the details.

I guess you have to look at this from the perspective that the other alliance members are not so much looking at details in the QF database, as they are looking at details in Amadeus, which is a database used by a lot of companies. The website http://checkmytrip.com will also show you your details if you register an account, and I believe that's run by Amadeus.

This is one of the reasons we often say dispose of your boarding passes properly, because the barcode can reveal your PNR, but sometimes it's just printed on the BP and with the last name you have access to a lot of information. However, nobody would ordinarily have access to your PNR so there's no issue. It's a bit like posting a photo of your credit card, until you give 'them' the information, they can't abuse it.
