Round the World with Qantas??

Finally succeeded in booking a QFF RTW Business for my wife and I. As recommended here, ringing Qantas seems the only way to get it done. Even at 363 odd days in advance, couldn't book any seats out of the USA to return to Sydney.
Flight is now SYD-SIN-LHR-BOS-JFK-YVR-HKG-SYD. Qantas staff were very helpful and thanks to them. My only query is seat allocation. Have been able to request seats on QF and CX flights with no charge but BA seems to want to charge $115.80 per seat per flight. You would think that after charging 560,000 QFF points and nearly $2500 for fees and taxes you wouldn't have to pay extra to pick a seat in U class. Must be a BA thing!:evil:

BA do charge for J seat allocation, unless you have high BA status or maybe be OneWorld emerald (QF plat) [unsure when it applies for OW]

As a OWE I had no problems or additional costs selecting seats on my 2 BA J legs which are part of my next 280k award.

I am about to go on my RTW trip and have two flights in Y on BA. I have Marco Polo gold with Cathay (through my credit card) which is the middle one for One World (Sapphire??) and I was able to ring them and choose my seats. However, my girlfriend who is on a different PNR (as she is not doing the first part of the trip) and is only Qantas Silver can only choose seats for free 7 days in advance.

Therefore I have chosen my seats and hopefully we will be able to get the seat next to it 7 days in advance, otherwise I will choose others.

If you don't have any Oneworld status, you have to pay on BA, even in business. It sucks but that's how it is.

Has anyone ever had any luck with 4 x Classic RTW in J? I'm happy to phone.

Was planning on 4 x Classic Europe return (which I have seen) but if we can get RTW for only a few more points that would be better!

That type of award is not specifically around the world but a 35,000 mile limit, 16 segment, 140/280/420 point award. For 4 x J awards like this you will need 1,120,00 points plus 4 x J seats available on each leg. Not impossible but very difficult.

Don't give up so easily Fokker. The hardest sectors to get seats on will probably be out of and in to Aus, which you will be doing irrespective of whether you only go to Europe or opt for the RTW option instead. Popular segments such as LHR via DXB and MEL (or SYD) to LAX can be hard to get even 2 J seats on so looking at alternate routes (such as to the US via NRT) and other OW airlines might surprise you. Try looking at what IB, RJ, AA etc have available
