It sounds like a good fare, the domestic J all around the world is nothing special

It wasn't domestic. We had THAI, SWISS AIR & QF Long haul J. I just bought domestic trips to suit in the open jaw segments.

Is it cheaper to book through a travel agent ?

It was difficult to get this booked online at the time. The agent I used was well priced, great service and no CC booking fees at the time.

Are agents responsible for arranging visa ?

You are responsible for having the correct visa. Airlines won't let you board if you don't.
Your agent should advise you what you need and can get those visa organised for you.
