I am booked into HOP next month and now that I am HHonours Gold (yeh! Thanks to serfty.), I was instantly upgraded to an Executive room.
I quite like to be on the same floor as a lounge, only a few doors away preferably.
Is this possible at HOP? If it is possible, should I ring to arrange it beforehand?

It's certainly easier being on the 18th Floor - no reason why you should not try to make sure.

"Instantly Upgraded"? AFAIK, such upgrades are not confirmed until check-in.

I also have a booking here which I was able to "instantly upgrade" for $0 as a NOR1, perhaps that's what happened?

"E-Standby Upgrades" (AKA Nor1) are not normally processed until within a day or so of check-in.

sinophile888's check in is not until next month.

Maybe the HOP are doing things differently these days.

When I was booking, I was offered the option of upgrading to an Executive room for $0.00. I was delighted and, of course, accepted the offer.

What you have done is request an "E-Standby (nor1) Upgrade". Here's what is noted on the request page:
How eStandby® Upgrades Work:
1 Select each eStandby® room upgrade below that interests you, then click the "Continue" button.
2 Find out at check-in if you get your requested eStandby Upgrade®.
IF YES
You agree to pay the additional amounts stated below for your award(s).
IF NO
You will stay in the room you originally booked and pay nothing extra.

My past three trips to HOP as a Diamond have been upgrades to Relaxation Suites 513, 613 and 2001... Next time I might ask for a downgrade to an exec floor room...

Are you crazy? :)

For one night being closer to the lounge is more important - I don't use the spa do it is just a room to sleep.

Not often you see someone willingly want a downgrade but I'd agree with simongr on the reasoning.

Think sinophile888 got a little excited and hadn't quite understood the NOR1 offer. Trick for new Golds ;)

I understand it fully.

When all you are going to do is walk into the room and have a sleep then wake up and leave again I also see it as a waste.

YMMV, I guess - I would be using the spa if it was there. Even if I had an overnighter!

He, he, the "spa" in our relaxation suite at Cairns was about big enough for my big toe.........no, I lie. Two big toes!

I don't recall the last times had a bath rather than a shower - I definitely recall having one in 2001...
