Rockfords discussion

"Roaming five course tasting menu"... What does that even mean? Five courses of "roaming canapes"?

I've had two experiences. The last Tasting Australia I roamed through their gardens and while it was canapes, it was actually quite nice. I certainly didn't feel hungry at the end.

I did BVF another year where I dined in the barrel hall that often featured in @Buzzard's tours to Rockford, and that was full plates. It could be either really.

Would you be disappointed with either?

A completely irrelevant post. I headed up to Cosco earlier today, on my way home I took a couple of wrong right hand turns and before I knew it I had accidentally arrived at Rockfords. To make matters worse some Black Shiraz, Rifle Range, Rod & Spur, Local Growers, White Frontignac, Frugal Farmer and Alicante Bouchet (all of varying quantities) magically appeared in the back of my wagon. I think the wagon is possessed.

That is some detour seeing as I know where you live and where Costco is and where Rockfords are (if the wagon wants to do that again it can just detour to my place) ;)

Have had similar issues with my car. I believe it's a sat-nav issue but I'm reluctant to have it fixed.

I’ll get that fixed, if I were you. I can’t see any Basket Press on it

Just back from a tasting. They're now also using a space called the kennel for Stonewaller tastings. It's between the regular Stonewaller tasting room and the public tasting room.

Dry Country Grenache is all sold out. They are selling magnums of the 2016 Basket Press for $235.

I thought the 2019 reds were all pretty good across the board. The Moppa Springs really approachable but lots of potential there. The Basket Press seemed old school to me (in a good way). Lots of dark fruit but not in your face. Beautifully balanced. I noted also the Black Shiraz seems a bit more old school. Perhaps a little less sweet with those lovely leathery and baking spice notes.

I opened up a bottle of White Frontignac and a bottle of 2021 Black Shiraz for Christmas lunch.

Everybody loved the White Frontignac. Most did not like the Black Shiraz at all! I really enjoyed the Black Shirazy
My wife doesn't like the sparkling either and I'm not going to drink a bottle on my own. I haven't taken my allocation of 6 ever, unless for someone else.

I bought some of the black Shiraz for Christmas, as two of my siblings love it.
Then brother + wife got Covid Monday before Christmas and didn't travel up to BNE from MEL.
The more Covid cases and my extended family's get-together on Christmas Eve, when I would have seen my sister, was cancelled.

Maybe I'll lure them to my place some time with the promise of the black Shiraz! :p
