Heard on ABC Local Radio this Morning:

....from 17 January 2017, Brearley Avenue will be closed to airport traffic....the most effective route to access T3 and T4 - for traffic using Tonkin Highway and Great Eastern Highway eastbound - will be via Tonkin Highway and the new Dunreath Drive interchange.
Westbound traffic on Great Eastern Highway will access T3 and T4 via the recently upgraded intersection at Great Eastern Highway and Fauntleroy Avenue.
This intersection will also continue to provide access to the General Aviation precinct at the airport (charter flights etc)

This is to "make way" for the airport link, but it does worry me how far from T3/4 the station might be!

Closing the road to build a new train station

That is quite a distance to the terminal, if that is the plan

The new station being built there is "Belmont" station. The airport station is being built near T1/T2 as I understand. In future, all airport operations will be from T1/T2 so no need for a train station at T3/T4, although knowing Perth airport, this probably wont occur til after 2030 and there will be 10+ years with no train station for T3/T4.

Needs more roundabouts!

Seriously, I tried that way out a few weeks ago. Those roundabouts are a pain. Perth drivers don't know what to do when getting to a roundabout so it just slows everything down. Fun times ahead.

Totally agree! What works elsewhere seems to fail in Perth!!

If you are coming from the west, wouldn't you have 2 options (1 with a lot of roundabouts, the other with not so many)?

A small point - and in no way your fault, as this is how it has now been spun; Brearley Ave closure was always going to happen, as part of the Gateway Project. It's just been politically expedient to link it to the new Belmont station, and so that is how history is being written.

But even if FAL (the railway link) had not gone ahead until 2030 - as originally planned - Brearley Ave would have been closed as part of the redevelopment of the area associated with the Dunreath Drive redirection.

Belmont Station will be near the roundabout at the end of the Brearley St shown in red.
I'd assume they will run a quick shuttle for the 5-10yrs till QF moves to Airport Central

(Hopefully using a suitable bus - eg. All low floor with multiple doors)

Biggest problem for me was finding a petrol station to fill up the rental car. After about 25 roundabouts we gave up and went back to Kewdale.

I'm sure there's one somewhere but buggered if I know where

Being a local yokel I'd never considered that problem for visitors. Coming from the CBD your best option would be on Great Eastern Hwy prior to Tonkin Hwy I think.

Coming soon are roundabouts that include traffic lights for peak hours......
