About six weeks ago I was at the CX / OW J lounge in MNL and used one of the two payphones located inside the lounge. I made two calls - one to Australia and the 2nd to Malaysia - and used my credit card.

Yesterday those two call charges have appeared on my CC statement as BBG COMMUNICATIONS LONDON and I was charged $36.37 and $23.56 respectively. Both calls were no longer than five minutes. And I feel rorted, ripped off, cheated, conned, taken advantage off!

I did have my mobile phone but it had no battery and for this travel I did not carry my laptop and could not use VOIP. I guess its a very costly lesson learnt.

I did a google search for 'BBG Communications London' and the results reveal countless of other people getting dudded by this group.

So maybe just a reminder to be a bit wary when using your credit card for pay phone usage.

Ouch!

In what currency was the original charge? How much of those charges were imposed by the CC company for foreign exchange transfers and charges?

I guess the low A$ rate did not help either . A good reason to carry a calling card or similar.

I wouldn't feel too bad about not putting it on your mobile instead. From my calculations if you have an Optus mobile:

5 min call to Australia - $27.50
5 min call to Malaysia - $27.50

The call rates are pretty expensive that you've been charged. Not sure what recourse you have though.

Normally unless there is a special agreement (eg Optus / Singtel) the rates i have been seeing are in the range of $2-$6 per minute for overseas calls on mobiles. But what choice is there a lot of the time.
