RIDE SHARE comparison thread

Expensive. All my late night / early morning no traffic rides were under $35. Maybe they drove via toll way and charged you for that?

Definitely via toll roads. I'm not sure what the Uber protocol for toll roads are. Personally I don't mind as I like to get there in the shortest time, but on that route it is often just as quick to miss the toll roads and save the cash. The driver does need to know how to do that though and there is no guarantee that they do. The trip was Saturday morning and not busy and no road works that I can recall.

Though I might just give an update on my recent ride share trips ... or I should say non-trips!

Trip 1 - arrived CNS and tried to book a Muve. The app had for some reason lost my CC details so I had to re-enter them. Then it needed my to confirm the small amount deducted from my CC. Trouble was it didn't. Deduct that is, so I couldn't confirm so couldn't book! Checked Uber which was dearer than taxi so taxi got it.
Trip 2 - tried to book Muve for a gold coast trip (about 25min) for daughter to go to work on Boxing Day. No Muve drivers available. Tried to book Ola. No Ola drivers. Went to book Uber and the rate range was $26 - $31. Decided to recheck Muve. No drivers. Rechecked Uber ...surged to $35-$45 . Rechecked Ola. No drivers. Rechecked Muve, no drivers, rechecked Uber surged $60-$70. Bugger that, put down my coffee and drove her myself.
Trip 3 - Arrived CNS and tried to book Muve. Attempted to find driver (drivers showing) chosen driver (chosen by Muve) didn't pick it up and it timed out. Tried again, this time another driver accepted but then nothing! No map showing progress, no cancellation notification, no nothing. Tried again (the rate range was good), but the app tells me I can't book another ride when I'm currently on one! Tried Uber, Driver close, cheaper than cab so Uber got it.
Trip 4 - arrived in CNS and tried to book Muve. All good except the app said "currently working on our system, try again later". Went to book Uber, range $30-$35. Nope jumped in a waiting taxi which I knew would be about $25. Ended up being $23.

Seems the taxi industry is not done and dusted just yet!

Many of the rideshare people are on a number of the apps so if you are having problems getting a ride on one you may well have problems on many. I think you should always be aware of the competions prices, what is cheapest one week isn't always so the next. This is true for most products, ride shares is no difference. Caveat emptor.

Having said that, as mentioned in other threads I have recently found Ola easily the cheapest in general.

FWIW DiDi showing 2.1 Surge on New Years Eve - I was not even aware DiDi implemented surge pricing - you live and learn

Tried using Didi twice now. Both times despite cars in vicinity, no drivers accepted rides and gave up first time after re sending (10 mins) and second time after 5 mins, both times switched to Ola and accepted within a minute. Both times in MEL (first from airport and second to airport).

Amazing - I have used DiDi 100% since it launched in MEL with never a hitch - ALL DiDi drivers are also Uber drivers - I have never heard a good word about Ola from a driver.

Sounds to me that DiDi is good in Melbourne but not anywhere else. In Sydney that drivers I get love Ola but I'm sure they get deals too, what is good this month may be cough next.

It's a bit like the FF game, one good things closes, another opens.

Maybe it's something to do with my account - perhaps the fact that I'm using a foreign phone/phone number. Not sure if they see the fares, but when I was trying to get one at MEL it was after midnight, and there weren't that many drivers around, and fare wasn't huge so not really surprised that no-one accepted even after 10 mins (but then again, same with Ola, and it accepted instantly). But coming back to MEL yesterday from suburbs, there were lots of Didi drivers around so I was surprised that none accepted.

Interesting I've had drivers that work for both Uber and Ola and a couple that will only work with Ola

Another update for CNS.

2 trips,
1. Muve, no drivers but advertising the cheapest rate range (not a lot of point). Uber rate range $28-35,grabbed a taxi for $21.
2. Muve, no drivers but advertising $9-14, grabbed Uber witha range of $16-20. Cost $16.

I fear Muve has a model which is problematic. Both trips showed cars on the road near me, but obviously with pax. So I'm thinking they are successfully luring pax, but not enough drivers. That will eventually turn away the pax.

The other thing that annoys me slightly, is that Muve will display a waiting time, 6, 7 minutes or whatever, but then when you hit the "book ride" button, a window pops up to say "no drivers". Why do that? Why not just book the ride and apply the waiting time?

Not familiar with Muve however there is inherently an issue with most apps and their accuracy. As a driver only for Uber I can say that there are plenty of times when a job pings and it says says 10 minutes away and you accept the job but once you get the GPS working it is closer to 15-20 minutes away. (this is very frustrating for a driver because he/she then has to decide to keep going or cancel the job.) On the other hand it can also work in reverse and say 10 minutes away but you end up only 5 minutes away. As well I have rocked up to the pickup address and the customer mentions that according to his app I am still 2-3 minutes away.

As for Muve it sounds like a mixture of the accuracy of the app and flaws in the app it self.

So with Grab you need to top up Wallet first and then draw down rather than pay directly for each trip as Uber or DiDi do?

You can do either...pay directly from your credit card or top up GrabPay and then pay from there. I think they offered free / cheap rides if I used GrabPay so i went that route when i signed up in Malaysia in January.

With Grab you can also choose “cash” if you want to (definitely can for Grab in Singapore).

Yes I finally worked out how to add CC - I am not the sharpest pencil.

I sought assistance from Lounge Angels and was surprised so many use cash in Grab - a couple of their colleagues had their CCs compromised after uploading to Grab so many are gun shy - that was main reason hardly anybody there could guide me as they do not upload CCs to Grab

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've had more than one credit card loaded for at least two years now, maybe have been lucky. But probably knowing the attitude here, everyone probably knows someone who knows someone who allegedly had their CC's compromised so no-one dares add them.

I've found Ola to be the most competitive in Australia. Last Ola driver in melbourne also told me that Ola pays him a higher percentage of his fare as well compared to Uber.

Commission drivers pay:
Uber - 25%
Ola - 10%
DiDi - 5% - as Karl would say - ‘Don’t leave home without it!’
