indeed, and they are likely to live out the old saying that the easiest way to end up with a small fortune in the airline industry is to start with a large fortune.

All I take from this is that if they offloaded one (un)fortunate passenger in Sydney this morning, they could've flown all of these with a Saab... Maybe that's what management think is happening with claims of good passenger numbers...

Looks this morning like they’ve dropped the prices mid-week on all the jet routes. MEL-SYD $20 cheaper for example. Clearly filling seats Tue/Wed/Thu remains a problem without lower fares. And yes, VA have already price matched.
Just noticed this myself. Slightly annoying as I just booked MEL-SYD-MEL for $99 each way!

Yes it is a shame. I can’t see VA sticking with it’s amazing J fares when ZL finally pulls the plug.

No but VA2 cannot afford to let Rexy get a foothold so are sacrificing their margin to keep them at bay (and I'm sure hoping they ultimately exit the jet game). They can't afford to be fighting Rex for the 'discretionary' travellers at chicken feed margins forever....
 
I doubt a FF program and lounges will push all loads from 20-30 to a more consistent 150-180.

To be honest it’s not really going to make much difference.

The whole Jet operation was based around Virgin not returning. It has, and Jetstar has increased its share around Tiger markets, so begs the question, who exactly is the Rex 737 passenger? It’s like it’s a operation that just isn’t needed, or space does not exist for.

They really need to be a low cost carrier.

I think you're right, they are offering a service no one wants. Trying to compete with Jetstar, QF and Virgin is just dumb and they will burn through their cash, but I guess egos in the airline industry can be pretty big.

They are still aiming to have 30 737’s in the coming years so I can’t see them backing out just yet
 
It doesn’t make sense to me but it’s not my money they’re playing with

What doesn’t make sense to me is not that they’re planning to fly 10 planes but they’re planning to do so without customers. They seem to be investing way too much in operating planes and almost nothing in marketing. They in theory could carve out a niche but probably need to invest 2x in marketing as they do in running the airline itself.

They also won't win much BFOD either with their current frequency and how it integrates into corporate booking tools. Even VA2 struggles with this massively v QF, so Rexy has NO hope simply.

I'm always up for more competition, but I can't seen them lasting past 2024. They will have committed to burning a monthly cash amount, but they are used to only competing on routes with 1 other airline or even no other airlines but long distance buses.

They have a plan, many here think it's a folly including me, but I wish them well. (John Sharp will go down in history as either wrecking the place or growing it)

Their advertising spend is woeful.
My parents closest airport is WGA and QF is normally expensive so they prefer to drive to CBR and get VA to ADL but I mentioned to them about Rexy and mum said “no way am I doing 2 legs on those small planes” She had no idea they had jets and when she asked around hardly anyone she spoke to in the region did either.
She went on the website to have a look and you can’t book WGA-MEL-ADL in J on the 1 ticket so you have to book WGA-MEL in Y and then another booking for MEL-ADL in J and she just said it’s not worth it. With the VA Plat I gifted her they can take the short drive to CBR get lounge access and YX seats or with the price of J just purchase that
