Rex to fly between Australian capital cities

12J/156Y config - makes you wonder whether they'll leave it be or take 4J out to align it with the ex-VA 737s?

Adding one flight and puts out a presser? Bizarre. ‘Rextra’…hmm embarrassing.

So did we get to the bottom of this Samoa Jet and it’s cabin? What’s the J Seat like?

On a side note, the HK arm of PE Firm PAG had just bought Four and Twenty Australia.

Maybe Four and Twenty Pies may appear on REX flights in Y (and/or J) soon? :)

Hmmm, I'm not convinced that's a legit rex press release... They don't take a swipe at Qantas anywhere in it.

Well on radio they took a swipe at VA2 being the 'supposedly official airline for the AFL' but with the 'highest cancellation rates in the country we thought we would help out footy fans'!

Ouch lol

PAG also has Craveable Brands ( Red Rooster, oporto and Chicken Treat ) and the Cheesecake Shop. So Four and Twenty and Cheesecakes for Rex flights? And Oporto for the lounges?

Ah ok... So VA is now the new target. Step aside QF you've got a new friend.

I'd have to say that Bain's equivalent (Bain owns Retail Zoo - The holding company behind Boost Juice, Betty's Burgers, Salsas Mexican and CIBO Espresso) looks better than PAG's Craveable Brands equivalent.

My love affair with rex is fast coming to an end :(

It’s nothing major, check-in yesterday was, again, a breeze. The assigned gate at SYD was 31, about as close as you could get to security. And the flight left and arrived on time. Unusually, the crew were only ‘so-so’.

The gripe is rextra legroom seating. At the airport the airline doesn’t block this zone off and allows free selection, even if the flight isn’t full.

There were plenty of spare seats in regular economy, a couple of whole rows free even, but a couple of plonkers decided to select 3B and 3E just because… well… I dunno.

They weren’t tall. There were lots of other seats available which would have provided more room. They were flying solo.

Topping it off the guy beside me was very broad-shouldered. It meant us pax on either side were squeezed outwards from our seats. The guy even apologised as he dropped himself down with a, well… ‘plonk’.

Before you think I’m being harsh, after getting up from my window seat to disembark I notice my backpack has disappeared from the overhead! Another was there, which I grabbed and darted to the door, dropping it there while running up the jetway and into the terminal.

And there it was, in the hands of middle-seat-guy. He was like surprised it wasn’t his. (Aside from being black, there was nothing in common, and mine didn’t have a water bottle attached to the outside.)

Rewinding 30 seconds… on dropping my bag at the cabin door and hurriedly explaining ‘someone took my bag!’ the crew’s response was ‘oh, well you should go and speak to one of our staff at the service desk’. Seriously?

Anyway, won’t be paying for rextra legroom again… I don’t think many people do. And it seems you can get if for free.

Other notes… three upgrades processed in advance of boarding. None of them looked like the corporate type or a passenger rex might be trying to encourage to fly business class in future. One was a hippy. The other, an aussie, reclined their seat from the moment they sat down, and left it that way through taxi and takeoff. When told the meal choice was a curry or ‘plate of cured meats’ asked ‘what is cured meat?’ to which the reply was ‘things like prosciutto’… you can see there this is going…

‘what’s prosciutto?’

And the final note… I have found a truly legitimate reason to recline!

Normally I wouldn’t recline on a short one hour hop… but with broad-shouldered-middle-seat-guy… reclining was the *only* way us pax on either side could sit properly. Luckily it was rextra legroom, so the impact on those behind was minimal. But I believe that might just be a genuine reason to need to recline on a short flight!

I hear you. I mean 9/10 VA fights I’ve had recently are all very polished. Nobody is perfect and VA don’t execute perfectly, however more often than none they do. Rex isn’t polished as such, they just come across to me like a country battler wannabe full service carrier.

Will be interesting how this FF program launch will go. Will they shift mindsets and start putting an effort into higher status pax?

The plonker who sat in my VA X row last week has removed within about 60 seconds.

Well at least Rex is making bank with all the travel between Sydney and Melbourne last weekend and will be on this upcoming weekend as well 😅 😅 . Will see how school holidays go for them.

I've just booked a bucket of travel: MEL: ADL at $69 each way, MEL:SYD $79 each way; MEL:BNE $109 (where I can't get VA at $89!) each way. With those fares I can can cope with something less than perfection, and I seem to run about 1 in 3 on getting a J upgrade.

Please let us know how you are so lucky with upgrades!!

I haven’t had a single one in 7 flights… (not complaining at the fares I’m paying, but if they’re the same base level, wonder what i’m doing wrong!)
