Well there's that, and the fact that if you just paid yourself through some manufactured spend mechanism (eg Paypal family & friends, which a lot of people have been banned for but I digress) via consumer cards there's really no major tax implication, but paying your business via merchant account must be a bit of a nightmare, since it's going to land in the business account with associated merchant fees and you'd need to exclude the revenue to avoid double taxation but you'd probably be claiming the merchant fees so I'm guessing that one way or another the ATO/accountants wouldn't be a huge fan of it.
Not to mention that these days, merchant facilities (and even PayPal) report your processing volume to the ATO as business revenue for tax pre-fill.

It wouldn't be counted as revenue but it would be a funding mechanism - that I am not worried about at all. ATO wouldn't see this as revenue - more like short term debt requirements hence the merchant fee.

Amex T&C is really the only hurdle.

In *theory* you could pay yourself (or related busines) then record it as refund and pay back the amount via bank transfer. The risk with paying yourself is 1. ATO 2. (not sure if mentioned) is GST, which you cant claim back so makes it pretty expensive

I never tried the above or advocating it, just a thought

Does anyone know what the fees are for post billpay for the business? I know that visa and mastercard are listed on the website, but there is no mention if someone pays through paypal (like using their Amex)

some are 1% for paypal/amex.

Yes but I pay my rates with PayPal (Amex) and I don't get charged a fee for it. How much does Amex/PayPal charge the merchant through bill pay?

To save reading through 36 pages, what are the current options besides YakPay and Beem It for paying personal bills (BPAY) via credit card?

@Yak Pay | Payment Logic Beem It does not support the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card as the error it throws suggests it is an international card. Can you suggest whether it would be supported by YakPay?

Hi Johnny,

The new HBSC Star Alliance card is supported and can be used within our platform.

Feel free to message me if you have any further questions.

Kind Regards,
James

Tried to use beem on a bpay, but the biller doesn't accept credit card. Any other options I can do to use amex/visa without incurring fee? They don't accept Postpay either (only bpay, credit card with 0.8% surcharge or eft). Usually I would be fine with the fee, but this is a personal expense

With Sniip charging 3% to BPay with an international card, rather than 1.5%, that's no longer reasonable. Beem It says it only works with Australian cards. Are there any good payment methods for international cards any more?

Tried wise? I don't have a good international card so I have never tried it

DO they know it's an international card from the number configuration?

Doesn't Wise just do money transfer? The thread is about paying bills (esp. BPay) by credit card and overseas credit cards have much better rewards schemes, so it's way preferable to use an overseas card. (see "Strategy to obtain US Amex")

Yes, a card's issuing institution and country can be determined from the number.

Looking to pay a personal bill by BSB (not BPAY) with Credit Card - what are my options?
The bill is due today - looks like Sniip and others are BPAY only?
Any help much appreciated
