Retro Roo II

For those not on Facebook or Twitter, Retro Roo II will be one painted in one of the liveries featured in this collage. The question is, which one? :)

Definitely thinking 1 (with its reappearance bottom left).

But would also like to see some non-Qantas retro roos (much like the AA aircraft.

Thinking TAA with 70s blue T tail, 80s blue-orange scheme and Australian Airlines late 80s.

Probably with modern Qantas titling above the doors (like AA does)

Also reported on YSSY that VH-VXQ (the only refurbed 737 with the 80s scheme) is the one heading to TSV for the repaint

Never really loved the Trans Australia and Australian Airlines liveries much (though still have one Qantas Australian FF bag tag) I'd love to see the late 70's blue and white T-Jet back again. Can but dream, I guess?

I agree the blue-orange TAA scheme isn't pretty, but it sure is retro!

1 I reckon. I'd love a TAA one too - but given branding importance Qantas must be prominent, and surely anything with V runs the risk of being confused with...

I love special liveries but could see how "V-Jet" could be confusing - only just found out the "V" stood for "vannus" (latin for fan) - not sure how easy that would be to explain to passengers! (Mind you John Travolta's jet is in that livery so anything is possible...)

As an aside a couple of "non-retro" thoughts I've had (not sure if they are feasible or not):
- A pair of blue and pink tailed 737s in support of the Prostate and Breast Cancer Foundations (similar to the AA/DL/UA pink planes) - VH-VZO and VH-QOH are halfway there already
- An A333 in full aboriginal scheme (would love Nalanji Dreaming to make a comeback) - might boost Asian tourism into Australia while the AUD is low if it gets to ports like HKG, SIN, PVG, BKK and NRT?

That's why I can't see options 2, 3 or 4 on an aircraft in commercial service, it would just be too confusing to most passengers.

I would be surprised if they actually used a fully white tail, especially with the red writing it would be similar to Virgin. The red tail is pretty key to the differentiation between the two.

Great to see another one of these in the skies! Definitely a talking point for non-aviation (non-AFF!) people - often the general population couldnt care (and don't know) what they are on.

Got to be No.1. The livery that introduced the jet age to Australia.

I am going for 1, it does say Qantas, and the others do have that big "V" on it, if only their domestic competitor was not VA.....

Have you ever flown in a Catalina? I could not imagine being in one for more than an hour, my flight was 20 minutes.
